Hello,

after more than two weeks i was able to make some progress yesterday and will make some more today. It mostly consists of filling gaps in textures and adding some more scenery:

Made some work around Vlasenik heating plant:

Added some more tracks for Dijamant facility:

Developed more area around Vlasenik station main building:

Did some decoration in Vlasenik and toward the Gorge:

Mr. Markovic has some delicious apples growing next to his cottage:

Laid down tracks on final approach to the pass from west. Last couple of kilometers uphill needed deviation to be build. So many runaway trains on this section during years, required better solution and gentler grades.
Company decided to build new section featuring three 1km long tunnels and viaduct and keep old section. Only passenger trains are allowed on old section westbound, while all freight trains must use new section westbound (downgrade).
While minimap shows grades below 2% there are actually sections with grades up to 2.4%

Deviation, old section below (have to dig hole and make tunnel) and new section going over viaduct above to make 180 degree curve:

Best regards!

Its 6:30 AM in Helper, Utah and a very heavy coal train with nine locomotives is pulling out of the yard with around a hundred full open three bay hoppers of coal. This was the first time I ran a train from one end of the route to the other. A big test and a nice feeling of progress on building the route. It went well, despite all that power at times we got down to 15 miles per hour grinding against the 2 percent grade all the way up to Soldier Summit. Then it was white knuckles time coming down the slope to Provo, Utah.

9:08 AM we halted at the yard in Provo, Utah. It was 71 miles. So we did that in two hours and thirty eight minutes. 26.5 Miles per hour average despite a 40 mph speed limit. To me a good sign that the route is just as in real life, a tough one. Please note I have spent very little time operating in Trainz, always been building little routes, but even after discounting my meager driving skills l think seasoned Trainz operators will enjoy the challenge.

Still have work to do plus I am moving back to the home town in a couple of weeks but I think this could be done by Christmas.

will it work in TRS19?
I would think so but let me PM a couple of buddies that know more about Trainz than I do. In addition I might still have TRS19 on my computer...that would a be cool way to do some tests. Will get back to you and I thank you for your interest in the Soldier Summit Route.

John, TRS19 is not going to work for this route, I am told from a trusted source. My apologies for saying I thought it would.
I will not go into anymore detail due to the fact that I just don't know enough to comment on an important issue. There is a great thread on the forum about this I read a few hours ago and now I can't find it to give it a link. Will keep looking for it.

EDIT: Found the discussion that is pertinent to your question.

Three new developments (textureless tho):

Morava lake made by HE power plant. Railroad has to overcome height difference between the dam and valley bottom in a series of tunnels and bridges :

State acetylene company plant in Mitrova:

Beginnings of city of Strižava with small depot, coal power plant and yet another Dijamant facility:

Morning empty coal train. I was finally able to find one loco which is somewhat similar to class 666 we use. While this is Spanish made licensed (319.2) Macosa loco, ours are EMD and similar with Irish CIE class 071, except Irish locos have narrower bodies and aren't built for 1435 mm gauge..

The first 30 km of the route are progressing fine for now.

Best regards!

There is one advantage to being retired, what's that you ask? I can work on Trainz all day and night! I revisited the Provo yards and the US Steel Mill. I figured out from a link on the forum that there were three yards in Provo, Utah. Union Pacific, Utah Railroad and of course the Rio Grande. The screenshot above shows the UP yard that I put in today. Also moved the coal unloading to behind the mill to make room for the UP yard. The facility to the left front is the D&RG & Utah Railroad Provo MOW headquarters. They are alright, but not quite up to standard compared with the Soldier Summit MOW is what I am told. 🤣
Cool site that was listed by Sultan1966 on the Trainz Forum: Nice map tool from Sultan1966

This one has a lot of space to fill due to the coal unloading moving...but it shows the three yards. UP in distance with the mill as a backdrop. The Utah Railway has a empty coal train heading east and finally the Rio Grande Railroad's Provo yard on the right. It is nine tracks wide.

The infamous lagoon and water treatment plant hidden away deep in the steel mill site. Rumor has it the 'water' in the lagoon can "take the hair off a goat." But perhaps the old timers at the Soldier Summit MOW team are pulling my chain on that. (Note: There actually is concern that the old US Steel mill which closed in 1982 may have contaminated the ground water and that mess is migrating towards Great Salt Lake.)
