I never knew he was a member here. I knew that the driver in TRS was based on a real person named Alastair, but I never knew he hung out here.

Furthermore, having never had a chance to really know him, I probably wouldn't have anything to say if I hadn't read through the entire thread. When I read the first post, I'll be honest with you all: I thought "Another member gone. Oh well." Then I read the entire thread. The responses you all have made has just about brought me to tears; in fact, the idea of a community project made me shed a tear.

Did I mention that I don't cry at much?

The incredible devotion of this community has truly moved me to tears.

That is a legacy worthy of Alastair.
 
Alistair and the Eastern Canada TOTR Team

Alistair travelled all the way to our area in Canada several years ago to participate in a national model railroad convention as I recall and the team of Trainz folks, many of whom developed the Toronto Rail Lands system in TRS2006 met him and got to know him well. We considered him a friend. His passing at such a young age is a total shock. Our condolences to his family and his community of friends. He will be missed.

Thank your Martin for those pictures. It brings back some good memories, but at the same time some tears.

I am deeply touch with Alastair's passing. I met and chat with him during the NMRA conference back in 2003, it was an amazing experience for my young age at that time. I am truly sadden by this event.

As with the tradition we used to do in the chat... Beanpole, this is for you:

Notice of funeral arrangements

Dussart - Alastair Jacques.

Our much loved son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend Alastair died suddenly at home on Sept. 5th aged 30. Funeral service 10.00am, Thursday 4th October, Barham Crematorium, Denton, near Canterbury. All who knew Alastair (aka H-J-P and Beanie) are welcome to attend but we'd prefer no sombre clothes and family flowers only. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Alastair's memory to the Kent Autistic Trust via Co-operative Funeral Care, 65 Sturry Rd., Canterbury, CT1 1BU, 01227463067. Alastair's love of railways and trains will be commemorated by his family. If possible, please bring a brief anecdote of Alastair on a scrap of paper. Georges, Molly and Fae would like to express their gratitude for the many messages of condolence from across the world. I have just heard of Alastairs passing from the Trainz Email. Over the years he was one of the well known names who made Trains through the forum a more interesting experience. As others have said. "We will miss you ".
We can ill afford losing people like him. May he rest in peace.

I read everything (I have not seen many of his posts) but he sounded like a nice person who could light up the darkest threads in the Forum.

I`m quite shocked......I only found out what happened to Beanpole by reading Paul Hobb`s sticky.

I met Alistair when we all went up to Glasgow for a big railway show. My first meeting with him was with Henk in a pub in the centre of Glasgow the night before the railway show. He really was a very nice fella and he certainly did know his railway stuff. I will miss him.

I am truly saddened to hear of such a great loss to the Trainz community and to the world in general.

Alastair, aka Beanpole, was a good friend to me years ago, and I will always remember his light spirit and witty humour.

I did not know u well Alastair but always admired you.

On my trainz I do not run the default drivers but I have now added you to my roster and will forever run freights for me.

Lets hope u can now peer over all our shoulders at out trainz projects

I only found out last month that "HJP" and Alistair the driver, butt of all our complaints about the AI, were one and the same.
Never met, but he helped with several of my queries here and on the UK Trainz forum.
Will be sorely missed.
 
It comes a shock to realise that Alistair was only four years older than my eldest daughter. I cannot begin to imagine what his family are going through. My deepest sympathy to them and to all who knew and loved him

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the news in the Trainz newsletter. As I read the article, I could feel my heart grow heavy and tears come to my eyes. He was a great friend even though we never met in person. His sense of humor and the energy that he had was reflected in his posts.
