Quality Control?

Hello;

I have been busy with making models for my copy of 2009 in the native mode. At intervals, I play with the built-in routes and, of course, the quality is pathetic! The alpha process-well, there ain't any. You have these opaque panels that block views as one rattles down the track.

Who okayed this? Or, is something wrong with my computer? It's absurd and no wonder that they hastily came out with 2010--2009 was a disaster!

I can't imagine what some new user would think, upon seeing the lousy rendering of the legacy stuff that they tried to correct to make it, uh, presentable to the public.

Really, Auran, what will 2012 and all the version afterwards, look like? The same old stuff? Well, a new 2009 user, I suppose, would presume that what he sees is supposed to be that way.

So, it appears that everything has been reduced to absolute cost minimization, i.e., let's just make the table top with some yellow angd gray lines, and, let the folks out therer provide the rest.

That is getting close to Open Rail, ain't it?

So, having said that, I expect to see an angry mob with torches, pitchforks and clubs coming after me. Such heresy won't be tolerated.

Or, will it?

I await contra opinions and the next release of Trainz.

Run the program in Compatibility mode for the older routes. This is found under the Main Menu (up at the top), or in Surveyor. This is the same area where you set the view distance, which is now up to 5k.

This issue was solved pretty much in TS2010, and is due to the way the program handles Alpha maps on the older models. The newer ones us normal-mapping and other alpha-channel methods to achieve the same function.

Hope this helps.

Hi John --

I think he has a valid comment with:

" ... let's just make the table top with some yellow angd gray lines, and, let the folks out therer provide the rest."

Has it not always been thus? Auran has limited resources so it has always been dependent upon the contributions of the community. TS2010 is certainly no different.

Whether this is good or bad is debatable. The hope and aspiration should be, surely, that the contributions gets better as time progresses.

Phil,

I agree too, and sorry I missed this one. :) I'm typing blind literally (I broke my glasses today like a twit). Are there any arm extensions available?

Anyway, I have seen some great new content coming out. Take a look at the screen-shots forum and compare the older layouts done in TRS2004 with those built more recently. There's quite a difference in the quality of the content, and I don't just mean the routes posted. Even I have replaced assets as they've become available because the they look better and the framerates are much better.

Please provide a list of companies world-wide where this philosophy does NOT exist. No charities please, as even they take a percentage of what they take in to cover operating costs.

Have fun,
