Thanks Ferrous for starting this thread. Just discovered it today.

I normally follow the "USA Pics" thread, but I think this is going to be my favourite from now on. It highlights the landscape, textures and assets rather than the trains (just my preference) and it has scenes from everywhere, not just from the US of A.

Those shots by Spikerod and Mezzoprezzo are especially convincing, I just want to jump through the screen and BE in those worlds!

I'm also looking at them and thinking that the officially maligned 'billboard' style trees are still way better than Speedtrees, at least for screenshots. Probably get hung for saying that again...

olpe: To make the mountain, I usually use the up portion of the topology(circle)..To start, I have to think about what I want to do, the end result..Start out with four(4) baseboards, I usually start in the middle of the four boards..That will be the peak..Work the four boards using the Up topology tool to the shape of the Mountain you have in your mind..It takes along time but it will be worth it..Use the get Height tool to check once in awhile to see how your gaining(in Height)..I usually say a Height of about 700-800 meters..Now this might also depend on what scale you are working with, but I don't think that will make a difference..

Sounds like what I do too, using the up- and plateau-buttons. But as you say, it's horribly time-consuming getting an acceptable quality... I'm looking forward to the day my mountains look somewhat like yours :) .

You say 700 - 800 metres. When you use get height in surveyor, Is the value in metres, or in feet?

olpe: I also use the color texture (Pale Blue) instead of White, the reason is because white has a creamy color.."Pale Blue" picks up the high lites better and looks cleaner..Use the up tool(small circle) and turn down your sensitivity too almost "0" and make small bumps(some will be pointed) on the very top of the Mountain..Then go into the textures get(Ice rock) and touch the top of the bumps..
