MyTrains and Simulator Central...?

What I had to do, was switch to Internet Explorer, change my password for mytrainz, then checked each sites login to sync them to the same password. Finally worked. Ironically, Chrome is now working now with the correct pswrds too. Kinda shook my head at that. Browser/site interaction seems to be wonky. BTW, took like 4 change password cycles too, before it started working.

Oh, yeah. Did get an email back from help desk, but I had mostly solved the problem by then. They suggested making sure mytrainz had my correct pswrd. (which, in the end finally synced after changing it again).

This appears to have been resolved. I logged into Simulator Central using IE (not cool), and re-set my password. I was then able to enter MyTrainz in IE. A few minutes later I tried in Firefox, and this time it worked.

That suggests to me that the webservers at Auran don't have their encryption keys up to scratch. Different browsers use different encryption algorithms for things like passwords, but a robust server should have all of them available. OR, they have to explicitly say which browser you need to use due to security reasons. Auran does not appear to have done either one. Not cool.

In this end this was little more than one big nuisance, and the proverbial trains will keep running, but still: not cool.

Thanks to everyone in here for the pointers. Hopefully this will help other users who encounter the same mess.
