Interesting findings with AJS Invisible Stations - users of these take note

Hi Trainzers,

I have discovered (whilst trying to sort a framerate issue) that there are several asset faults involving the AJS Invisible Stations. (andi06, if you are reading this, now is the time to correct these faults and upload a fix)

Note that the assets referred to here are built-in content in TS2009 and later.

All other versions and dependencies are OK, or only have warnings.

Users who are using either of these versions - you may not be able to use these in TS2009/2010 (native mode) or TS12 without framerate issues.

They're the only ones I could find so the finding wasn't the query. Have a look at them in your 2010 cm, there's nothing wrong in mine.

I've checked - the only way of finding the issue is when they are opened for edit and recommitted (using Images2TGA first)

A lazy solution, and seeing it's only 1 platform and I doubt you'd notice is delete the attachment points.
Unless your going to release the route in which case use a 4t+2t to make the 6t and 2x4t for the 8t.
Seeing as they're build 2.4 and have maybe been missing the attachment points since then I can't see andi rushing about fixing them and making them ok for build 2.9 or whatever the minimum is now.

I have attempted to do that, but it has the side effect of no passengers appearing on the platform.

Ideally, andi06 should make a fix for the errors, so that the stations can be used correctly in later versions.

Shane

If the asset is built in then of course opening it for edit and recommitting will cause the errors to appear. Did they work okay before that? Will they work okay if they are reverted to original?

Not very well - I have a feeling that 'hidden error' assets are actually what causes most asset/framerate issues with Trainz.

Even if the asset is reverted to original, it still has the faults. The only difference is that the faults are hidden so one cannot see them, although they are still there.

I've been criticizing Auran, now N3V about this sleight of hand trick for years. I join you in your suspicions.

Many users do not realise what these 'hidden errors' can mean, especially as a lot of assets have these 'hidden error' assets (like the ones mentioned in this thread) as dependencies. Another major one is 'default wagon' which has a hidden error, and is used by a large amount of rolling stock and some locomotives as an engine specification.

I realise that the thread appears to have gone off-topic a bit, but the issue is linked.

Hopefully N3V will read this and look into doing a 'Built-in Cleanup Project'. I do not know if they've fixed any of the errors in the versions they've uploaded to the Download Station for TS12 users though.

My beef has always been the double standard, ie: blaming content creators for sub par game play due to faulty assets, when they just sweep the built ins under the rug!

I'm in full agreement based on what I've seen. It wouldn't suprise me if these 'hidden error' assets are partly responsible for issues with the messaging systems within Trainz that I've discovered.

My version is currently running at less than 1 FPS. The strange thing is that it's not my specs that are to blame, as I have seen it do 10-15FPS. My strong feeling is that it's one or more of these 'hidden error' assets to blame. Perhaps I need a new thread about these.

Shane

re 2012 and the default wagon. The error isn't there but it does have 6 warnings, 2 of which are obsolete build number and no thumbnail.
The tag, scale in flowsize has been removed for the error which I guess can be done for 2010.

I still wonder how many other assets are affected, especially for users who do not have TS12.

I have started a new thread about the hidden error issue, and am welcoming opinions on the subject.

The opacity warning is caused by an incorrect (?) entry in the file <TrainzDir>\bin\TETData\container.txt . In the file opacity is defined as bool instead as float. The error (?) existed since TRS2006, and is finally fixed in TS12. Curiosly opacity is the only bool having an allowed float range for the value.

Some attachmentpoints exist twice in the mesh (south.im ?, a.pass_t6_on_62,64,66,68 and two a.pass_t6_off_xx).

The copies on the DLS are identical to the TS2009/TS2010 builtins in every way except for their link to the .ja files.
