how to tell when tender loaded

I've just started the first of the Murchison sessions, using cab mode, and have driven to a coal/water loading area.

I didn't see any animation as to loading coal or water, but get the stats as shown in the screenshot. The tender details show a solid green line, which I think means that it is fully loaded with coal and water. However, the HUD shows that it has only 10% water and 61% coal.

My questions:

1) which is correct? the details, or the HUD?

2) for those who have run the Murchison route, should I have seen a loading animation? (if it indeed loaded).

Both are correct - the details show what is in the tender, the HUD shows what is in the locomotive (firebox / boiler).

Oops, so the boiler is about to go dry. Not good.

What exactly does the 61% mean in terms of optimal amt of coal in the firebox?

The 61% means the firebox is 61% full. The optimal amount is about 85% for coal and for water about 70-75%. Press 'I' on your keyboard to open the injectors, one notch per press, and press 'O' to close them down one notch per press.
