GWR Clerstory coaches - any "modern" versions?

I enjoy British routes set in the age of steam; Gwladysdu is my latest toy. Thanks to Driver_Col for a very well-made route, despite the lack of speed treez and passenger-enabled stations. :-) In fact I do tend to amend such routes (Restormal Castle is another favourite) to make the passengers get on and off at the stations. However....

Although there are some very good GWR coaches from the steam era (eg the Collet ones) there are a lot of older carriages, especially the clerstory type, that are quite "primitive" compared to current stuff. They often have no passenger-enablement, no animated doors and no interior details.

So I am wondering, is there: either any payware of such coaching stock that is animated, etc.; or any prospect of the authors (eg bobsaunders or johnwhellan) of clerstory coaches updating them to provide such animations?

With all due appreciation to the many authors, who have given me hours of pleasure.

I assume you've been to http://trainzproroutes.org/tprdownloads/index.php?act=search&process you'll find a few 1922-1924 GWR coaches there that may meet some of your requirements. Steveflanders is producing some GWR stock these days, if he has a suitable broad gauge coach switching the bogies is not impossible. Bobsanders does more reskins of my work for coaches than create new ones. My last batch of coaches took two years to create from scratch by the way and I haven't yet finished the variations. The older models were much simpler to do. Andi06 is still active.

I may be able to use a 1922 model as a base and change the roof but that would go on the to do list. Currently I have some none Trainz related things which are taking priority.

Payware, Barn700 may have something but his models are of variable quality. On the more consistent end of the market Camscott may be open to creating something but it would be more of a commission than anything else. Anthony, 2995Valliant will do it on a sort of none profit basis if you throw enough money at him and a few others are interested, I would be for a start, with either camscott or Anthony.

If you do a forum search on those names you should find their models or links.

Hope that helps.

Mr Whelan,

Thanks for your prompt and useful reply. I've been to TPR and downloaded all the GWR carriages. Some showed a missing kuid (for a guard) that I couldn't find so I just deleted that kuid from the config file. The carriages all seem to work properly - no errors, warnings or missing kuids (except that guard).

Seeing as how I do receive the benefit of all sorts of free content from you various makers, I would be willing to throw an amount of money into a "development pot" if this would do any good. I would be willing to contribute, say £50 if that could be added to contributions from others and used to, er, "stimulate" a content creator. :-) I do like those clerestory coaches but I am spoilt now by those "modern" coaches with internal detail, animated doors, passengers et al.

I would like to contribute more to a development effort; but you know how it is when you're a pensioner. Also, the ladywife has her own list of "expenses" and Trainz does not appear thereupon. But you probably knew that.

Thanks once more,

The guard is by Bobsanders and should be on the DLS.

Steve has some Great Western Railway [4ft 8½in gauge] here http://ing4trainz.greateastern.org.uk/railcars.htm but you have to search on the page for them. There are some reskins on TPR by robd did you find those? For the moment I suggest holding off spending money there is a fair bit of free GWR stock available and Steve can be quite prolific once he starts work.

What you can do for me is take some photographs of wagons and vans so I can use them as textures. Take them flat on not at an angle, textures are a problem currently as the DLS requires them to be available for payware which prevents the use of my traditional sources.

I'll have to have a look at the cross sections of the coaches, it maybe possible to adjust one of the others to get the correct profile, the doors and handles are roughly correct but the lengths typically are only 25 or 55 feet so some length adjustment would need to be made.

John,

Must have missed those coaches ! Just curious, but did you have a reason for not putting them on the DLS ? Also do you know when these went out of service, did any survive into BR ownership ? (A quick Google search came up with loads of results !).

Cheers

I think Robd has done some reskins and if you ask him nicely for a BR era reskin he might oblige.

,John,

I've just had a look at one of the coaches (very nice by the way) and the textures appear, at least at first glance, to lend themselves to reskinning which I could manage. I have also found out from a quick research that at least some these coaches were in service until 1961 and later in departmental use and at least 1 survives, so they may possibly have carried 2 liveries, possibly 3 in their BR days.

Assuming I can achieve a reasonable quality of reskin have you any objections to my releasing it via the DLS, with due acknowledgements of course ? (I'd be happy to send you copies for approval if you wish and to stick with any conditions you might wish to apply).

Apologies to Lataxe for wandering a bit off topic.

Cheers
