The ECML project who support both the Deltic Preservation Society and the Koyli group at the National Railway Museum at York with 55002 are pleased to announce that this locomotive was started successfully on Saturday. The Deltic - Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry for the last 2 1/2 years has been rebuilt from pallets of parts from an unsuccessful attempt by another Deltic group to return the locomotive to the mainline. Missing parts have been manufactured and others refurbished.

After a few faults were rectified and more tests completed the loco took power for the first time on Sunday after being out of action for 14 years. 55002 was then driven up and down the yard adjacent to the NRM and the ECML.

The loco will again be in action this Friday and Saturday doing tests if anyone wishes to view from the NRM car park. There will be no specific times when this will occur. It is a long way off but the plan if all goes well is to use the loco at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway diesel gala in September

That's great news, well done to all those involved in keeping our heritage alive. And yes they do have a beautiful sound.:D

Thanks. The team have done a wonderful job. Its a labour of love with myself working every other weekend on koyli and the rest of the time building the ECML but well worth the effort. It was nice getting in the drivers seat at long last and doing some test runs. We had quite a few ECML trains going past with camera flashes going off. Or was that because of the steam engine Tornado parked behind us !!

Cheers
