blank screens on gmax

I have dowloaded Gmax from discreet and Trainz creation studio from Auran with the intention of following Jyttes tuorial.Prblem is as follows.After starting gmax for TCS it all loads fine,however when I click inside any of the screens they either turn white or black.Would appreciate any help to correct this problem.I am using Vista.

Vista is the problem. Before you do anything else, go to Paul Hobbs' site, http://www.44090digitalmodels.co.uk/ and download the first tutorial, 'Setting up gmax.'
Once you have gmax set up, go to the Menu item, Customize/Preferences and click on the Viewports tab. In the lower right hand corner, find Display driver. Click on Choose driver. Click on HEIDI and Software Z Buffer. OK everything and Vista will update the viewports correctly.

I had the same problem but changing the display driver into HEIDI did not help much. It created another problem. So I searched the internet and found this:

If you are on Windows Vista you need to fix a little "bug". This goes for both GMAX and for older versions of 3D Studio Max:
right click on the shortcut (either from the desktop or from the start menu), go to properties, Compatibility and set compatibility mode to Windows XP sp2, then check the disable desktop composition option.

Works for me!
