bendorsey - I'm (finally) back

Hi Cascade:

I've used AT&T for my e-mail since I first got TRS2004 many many moons ago with nary a problem. See no reason to change now. Plus I did move and my e-mail info did not go poof. All my old contacts e-mail addresses are still there. I thought they would go poof but they didn't (about the only good thing that has happened in the last 2 days).:hehe:

Hi Clam:

Got it, installed it and it works. Thanks. Weird that pure Gmax won't.

I'm going to stop by the AT&T store tommorrow and see if they can straighten it out. Our dog needs cookies (doggie treats) and the AT&T place is right on the way. Besides I have firm orders from her to get cookies, lol.

Got all the HF's and SP's installed into TS2012. On to installing T:ANE.

Ben

Heres is something (else) weird.

I re-installed T:ANE, checked, and it works. Went to get the updates and it says none are available. Now I know darn well I installed at least one hot fix before I moved so anyone have an idea whats going on? I'm quite certain my T:ANE disks didn't magically update themselves in the moving van on the way up.

Ben

I wouldn't trust the autopatcher. Autopatchers have been iffy as long as I have used Trainz! Here is the info for HF2, as well as for HF1 if you need it:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/show...TO-Patches-now-live&highlight=hotfix+download
http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?119821-T-ANE-Hotfix-1-Released

The betas are another deal altogether. I'm guessing N3V is going to try to get SP1 out before Christmas, so be on the lookout soon, unless you want to get into the beta stuff sooner.

T... According to them if you leave the computer unplugged from the wall for more then 4 or 5 days an internal battery runs down and and effectivly renders the machine inoperative. Thats gotta be total BS since it would mean they could never ship a new one to a remote and difficult to get to location. ...

Ben
That's one puny little battery that only lasts 4 to 5 days. Hardwired to the motherboard or can you replace it?

Did you have a local email client and thus save the messages locally too or use an online email service? If locally, then the files should still be on your hard-disk. If online, then they should still be there too. Accessing those might be a challenge until you are able to login to it.

If you just re-installed Windows then your data should still be there. Just have to re-install any programs to get them registered.

Good luck

Hi Kurt:

Downloaded all 4 (takes a lot longer to install them then download them if I remember correctly).

I can get to my att e-mail thing and surprisingly all my old e-mail contact addresses are still there. What I can't do is make windows internet explorer take me there rather then to google which I never used for email.

I did make a little progress - got my printer working.

Ben

Hello Ben,

Mmhh, If you can see your contact addresses without getting into AT&T webmail, then you must be using a version of Microsoft office outlook. But anyway, visting the AT&T store tomorrow, will make everything clear about your email situation.

Did you write the installation processes into a notebook ( paper & pencil )? I frequently write the step-by-step installation processes into my notebook, just in case something weird happens with my computers or programs on my computers and reinstallation is necessary.

Can't help you with Tane - I still haven't bought it yet.

Good job, getting the printer installed and have it ready for action:Y:

Best regards

Kurt

Hi RRsignal:

My version of T:ANE is the metal box collectors edition (build number 74885). None of the hot fix versions start with that low a number. Any ideas?

Hi Kurt:

Stopped by the AT&T store but they can't do it. I have to get in touch with the gent that connected things up yesterday and he is unavailable at the moment on another installation. Guess I will be playing phone-tag with him for a while.

Hi Martinvk:

Not only is it a puny battery - why would it need one at all other then perhaps to keep the internal clock going? I'd think the initial boot process would be burnt into a ROM so no battey would every be needed. Do other computer brands do this battery-thing too? I certainly never heard of anything like this but then I never unplugged my old Gateway for 10 days either. Love this computer otherwise. Never had a peep of trouble in the 5 years I've had it. Manual is a hunk of junk tho. 95% legal BS - 5% info (some of which is wrong), and a lot of info that should be there but isn't. I still plan on buying a new one after new years (glutton for punishment that I am).

Ben

Ah, that's one of the original versions, before the 8-9GB update! I think that patcher is available only via the online autopatcher, unless you want to order updated discs. I ordered the physical disc update through SimulatorCentral (IIRC, it was $9-10 for the discs, plus about the same for shipping) since I run T:ANE offline. With SP1 about to come out though, you might want to hold off, then try the online thing again.

If you buy the discs through snail mail, be sure to get the Deluxe discs.

Hi RRsignal:

I remember downloading and installing a whomping big update but it only took about an hour to download then another to install. My computer is fast (or was before I moved, lol).

Hi Clam:

If you mean the box marked "disable online features" it is NOT checked.

Didn't Shane (Turner I think) have a complete set of links on his site for all of these?

Ben

EDIT: I FINALLY got my AT&T e-mail to work but in the process I lost all my old contact info (big bummer). I also strongly suspect the few e-mails I sent out yesterday have the wrong return e-mail address (mine) so I guess ya'll need to PM me your e-mail addresses so I can send you my correct e-mail address.

I would suggest a reputable external EMail account like Yahoo, as it will never go away, as your ISP EMail account will go away, when you drop or change ISP providers

Use Free Skype, it is instantaneous communication

Welcome Back my Dear Friend, Ben!!!

Happy to read things are coming along smoothly!

PM send, good buddy!

Hi Ish:

You will get a kick out of this. Like most folks I get windows updates automatically. It downloads them when I turn the computer off in the evening and installs them when I turn it back on in the morning. Last night it said "please do not turn your computer off - downloading 197 updates". GADZOOKS! Took over an hour this morning. I knew I would get a fair batch but not that many. OK - my windows disk was 5 years old so perhaps not as unexpected after all.

Ben

Thanks guys:

I had to re-install windows and nothing works like it used to (when it works at all). I can't even figure out to get to my e-mail stuff.

I downloaded Gmax and installed it but it keeps asking me to register it with turbosquid (something I never had to do before) and I can't get that to work either.

Ben ( a serious computer nerd)

Time to move to Blender?😸
Mick

Hi Mick:

I've looked at Blender half a dozen times and it always comes up pure gibberish to me. It is almost certainly better then Gmax but it isn't logically set up. Nothing is labeled in a manner that intuitively gives you some idea as to what it is and what it does. Plus I'm too darn old and set in my ways to try and learn another headache inducing 3D graphics program.

One final thought (which I don't think most folks consider). After 10 years with Gmax - switching to Blender isn't just a matter of learning Blender - its also a matter of un-learning Gmax. Every time I would look at something in Blender I would automatically think in Gmax terms and that won't work worth a hoot.

Ben

Yes, I know what that is like.

10 years using Photoshop 7; two weekends ago I downloaded and installed GIMP to do one thing Photoshop can't do.
Two hours learning GIMP, watch youtube videos, click things like I click in Photoshop, and lose layers. Grrrr.
Seven hours later ....

Yes, I know what that is like...
