The year 1974 the Chaos the 1974 floods. In the following scene we recreate something that not many may recall seeing or that it ever happened.
The loaded coal train has just crossed Highway 15 as it heads along the Swanbank Branch. For those playing along at home the loaded coal trains ran for a time from North Queensland to keep Swanbank Powerhouse going as some of the nearby coal mines supplying coal to the powerhouse were out of action caused by disruption from the flooding. Stay tuned when we will do the timewarp again and go back to ancient Queensland to relive history. Ghosty

I am not happy with the "ancient history" remarks as I don't consider myself that old and it just seems like yesterday to me. A friend managed for me to get permission to spend a few hours in Bundamba signal box and watch the central QLD coalies come through onto the branch. I had one of those instantmatic 126 film cameras but it was a wet year and especially wet the day I was there so I did not get any good pictures. My memory says lots of EE types like the 1270s and 1300s on the trains.

A bit of side data for those not on QRIG http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/qrig/ and therefore don't have the latest data on the present day Fisherman Islands coal traffic ex the western Darling Downs; they are sometimes 41 hoppers, 652.4 m, ~2550.0 tonnes. All hauled by two 2300s. Not sure what the lengths of the 1974 flood coal specials were but they were restricted by the lengths of the 1974 version of the north coast crossing loops.

Hello

My reply is as following to this outlandish claims that I have a personal motive against Ghosty.

Please do excuse me moderators, but I have to defend myself against those take things the wrong way and get all personal.

Let me make this very clear;

A) I was mearly saying its my route, I am working on my project, so I can do what I wish. But as I said, once I am finished. I will correct my route to the correct format of modern day Ipswich. The dika bridge, I used in Ipswich was close enough to the original Bremer River Bridge, as the moto taught by Vulcan: You have to make do what you got if you don't have it. If you wish to put your input, contact me in private. I will be more then happy to listen to your concerns via email or pm. :)

B) I ment in NO disrespect or offence in any form towards ghosty, and I do not have a personal vendetta against him. I keep to my own projects, and say my views of users in private and away from any public page.

Personally, the only reason why I am still here, and not being intimidated by peoples threats who want to run me off the fourms. I enjoy the game, and make stuff for the game and I help other creators make items or get their items of rollingstock. I am not going anywhere if you like it for not.

GHOSTY keep up the good work and don't let this idiot get you down

A bit more on those emergency coal trains from Central QLD to South East QLD power stations after the 1974 floods caused problems in the Moreton [Ipswich] coalfields. If the locos were English Electric [EE] types they could include the 2350-61 group as well but maybe not the 2370-73 group unless it was after March 1975 when 2370 were delivered. Not sure how long the emergency coal trains operated to the power stations.

John Armstrong's book noted at end of message, Page 82/83, states 1300s or 2350s in a paired combination. It did not state only EE locos or even only 1300s as 1270s were used in that Central QLD coalfield traffic. They operated to the Tennyson power station in Brisbane as well to a specially constructed balloon loop extension of the Bundamba coal line to Swanbank power station. Picture shows what were modern hoppers for 1974 which would reflect what was modern in the Central QLD coal traffic. Bottom discharge process used at Swanbank over a specially constructed bridge type structure with coal dropping onto the ground. Front end loaders scooped up the coal for transfer to power station. That bridge was still there when I was last there.

Bit of warning re the 2350/2370 classes EE built locos mentioned in the 1974 coal traffic as there are also 2300 class GM/EMD locos in QLD these days. The 1970s & 1980s 2350/2370 classes EE locos were generally termed English Electric units but in actual fact they were products of the General Electric Company of Australia and built at same Rocklea place used by EE before English Electric was reformed into the General Electric Company. http://www.ozatwar.com/ozatwar/cmew.htm

Various mergers and acquisitions saw the English Electric company change its identity over the years:-

1968 English Electric - AEI
1969 GEC-AEI Engineering
1970 General Electric Company
1978 GEC Australia
1989 GEC Alstom
Today Alstom Australia

This
General Electric Company of Australia that built what are sometimes termed "English Electric" locos is not to be confused with the American General Electric Company who produce locomotives such as the Pacific National NR class locos.

"Locomotives in the Tropics Volume 3" by John Armstrong
http://www.railshop.com.au/prod20.htm

The 2300 class locos in QLD these days are Redbank railway workshop conversions of earlier GM/EMD locos built by Comeng at Rocklea in Brisbane as sub-contractors for Clyde QLD at Eagle Farm in Brisbane. The earlier QLD EE locos went to Tasmania in the late 1980s to join very similar Rocklea built EE types there.

My bit about being offended by the "ancient history" remarks were only in fun.

Guys, can we get back to the screenshots? Fark me dead seriously.

Most of this clutter just wastes the efforts of people who actually post up quality screenshots because it pushes their posts back a few pages and no one ends up seeing them.

i agree dimi, its people like patchy and ghosty that have pretty much turned me away from posting in the forums and now if this keeps up how am i going to get any inspiration to get back into building the city train routes? so can we please get back to screens and the friendly chatter that was here before

Cricket, just continue making your screenshots and posting up. Don't worry about who says what.

Waiting for Page 1280 and i'll post up a few.

dimi, having a look at some of your shots gives me some inspiration to get going again, they are really good, and cheers for some good advice :)

Patchy and Ghosty post up some of the better screenshots here! I always love coming to this thread and reading the dialogue and looking at the screenshots - I feel that if the thread was just pictures, there wouldn't be half the interest without the banter. I feel that well-meaning comments made by one user have been blown out by another user who has had a hissy fit and gone on the offensive. To blame Ghosty and Patchy for this is unfair.

I find it ironic that you complain about the recent text-heavy posts, and then fill up the page with one-line posts that do nothing to contribute any screenshots... Pot, kettle, black.

A few screenshots from my route NSWGR Melton North which should be completed by next week :)
The route is an expansion of Melton Vale.

Melton North circa 1987...

4481 hauls an express mixed goods and is seen leaving Melton Vale on the Spring evening of Tuesday 8th September, 1987.

Yeeha, nothing like some 44's or 48's to get me excited - just...mildly irked on the trees and their aura shimmer, ruins what could be a great screenshot, but never the less, one approves :)

Totally agree. Couldn't have been said better.
