Australian screenshots

Well, I just bought the $25 V Set back, so I guess you know what's coming haha :)

Firstly, I've got to say they are absolutely awesome.

I've got two little issues though, firstly a cosmetic one,
I'm not sure if its meant to be like this or not, but my marigold motors have the yellow front which looks great (below right),
however for some reason the driving trailers just have a plain grey front without the yellow (below left).
Is this intentional, or something that got overlooked?

My other issue is that the V Sets feel a tad underpowered to me speed wise. I have a long straight set of track that I was testing them out on, however they seemed to kind of 'max out' around 121km/h. I understand that the 'top speed' (ie obeying the rules) they have been used at in service is 130 km/h,
however V sets have been recorded doing up to around 160km/h, such as the famous incident where an XPT was being used for publicity trips around Penrith, with the driver announcing when the train reached 160km/h, only to have an v set interurban come flying past and overtake them somewhere between penrith and blacktown.

These minor issues aside, they are still some amazing content. Davido has done a fantastic job.

Now for a few more screenshots of the interurbans in action (oh and sorry for the rather bland scenery, but I'm sure the V's make up for it):

Once the last of the "blue goose" V-Sets were painted "Intercity" or withdrawn, the DCT cars had their fronts painted all-over grey, as they were no longer required in service (they are all just "trailer" cars now). As part of the "Intercity" fleet repainting, the control trailers are being repainted into "Intercity" colours for some reason, although they are never used to lead trains. There are still a few grey-front DCT's in service, although they are slowly dying out.

Thanks for clearing that up Railchase. :)

And so just to clarify, the marigold 'driving trailers' were never actually used as driving cars, just as trailers (as well as those repainted in the 'inter city' colours)? Thanks.

Correct. Most of them would likely have had parts removed from them to be used elsewhere in the fleet, and various other safety systems might not be installed or might have been removed to prevent people getting access to them. You can walk through them to get between cars on the train, the drivers compartment is inaccessible, but you can pretend to be the guard if you so choose! Some of the driving trailers might still be used in shunting at Flemington car sheds, but I wouldn't rely on it.

The Following is brought to you with permission of the creator, these shots are test shots and the locos featured have NOT YET been released and are undergoing test on behalf of the creator. I have been told that they will be available soon. Just be patient.

The grey front is intentional.....if you'd rather the grey/gold you could copy the texture from the DIM to the DCT I guess.

The engine/braking performance was ratified, by a very kind person who has hands on experience with these things, as being pretty close, so I was happy with that.

I'm really relieved at the positive feedback I have received so far.

Thanks everyone.

The only small problem i have with the V sets are the take off and coasting sounds as well as the idle sounds are very quiet and sometimes cannot be heard over other sounds such as the Trainz default wheel sounds. Is there anyway to rectify this?
But all and all these are great models and were worth the $25 dollars and it really fills the missing link in my city rail rolling stock collection.
Thanks

I've tested them and notch 4 gives the same power as notch 5. The reason for this is because the game will only recognise notches of power in multiples of 4 (4, 8, 12, 16, etc). A while ago, I tried to create a 5 notch enginespec and a 9 notch enginespec and this was the answer given to me by some wise gamers on the forum. I plan to alter the V set's enginespec (personal use only, of course) to make the output of notch 4 about half way between it and notch 5, two sort of compromised notches, I guess.

Hi All,

It was like Christmas had come early this morning when I recieved a email from Herbert (Vinnybarb) about testing his wonderful SCT locos,I knew from the screenshots he posted that they looked good and going off some of his recent models of AN and CL class they would be but these are in a different category with how great the detail and quality is,They look amazing and run very well and definitely high quality models so a big thanks to Vinnybarb.

After playing around with them in trainz for few hours here's few pictures.:udrool::udrool:

Cheers Harry

Just wondering if any of you fellows with the previews of Vinny's locos could post a cab view ? Just a drivers curiosity about other sides of the fence.

With the TRC vans, do you know when they were roughly in service until? Would love to know more about it's use.

TRC were recoded as NRTA/F and final date seems to be early 1990s although this says May 1951 to May 1987. http://www.nswrollingstock.com/TRC.htm

A common statement from some URLS below is " out of service in December 1992"

Following from Railpage makes useful reading

Photo evidence suggests that in TRC twighlight, early 90's , these wagons were painted white and used for SRA parcel freight duties

Very similar 'NRY'/'NRNY' refrigerator http://www.railpage.com.au/f-p606954.htm

Very similar NBTX 22705 Refrigerated Van was used on the New South Wales Railways for carrying perishable freight. It was built in 1973-74 as a NRNY refrigerated van, http://www.arhsact.org.au/index.php?Itemid=105 and http://www.ardp.net/topic236.html

Probably these above URLS will send you towards more sites especially if you use TRC's later Railways Of Australia four letter code NRTA or NRTF.

In short, remember refrigerator vans can be use for anything that is "clean" for back loading thus lots of use for parcel traffic. Also put one on a branch line train to deliver the cold groceries that the local shop ordered.

Some meat vans had hanging rails to hang carcases but others transported boxed meat.

This replaced ice cars http://www.nswrollingstock.com/FMW.htm

This was next in the evolution line. Picture taken at Redbank QLD but it was a QR version of a RACE container.

Next was a rubber tyre truck with a refrigerated van or container.

8142, I agonized over the sound levels for some time and eventually arrived at what you have now.
The V-Sets are inherently quiet. I did a comparison against a diesel loco and thought it about right.
I guess you could load the sounds up in Audacity and boost their volumes if you wanted to....... or just turn up the amp?:hehe:

I didn't know that Ryan. I guess in those circumstances, making notch 4 equal to full power would have to suffice.

No, no more payware for a while Steve.

I use a N3V build in cab, the same as I used on the AN Class units I made. As cabs are the hardest ones to build and hardly any screenshots of these are available, one has to be lucky to get good ones showing all around the cab if there were any available at all. I haven't got any, hence the N3V build in cab. But one can always use any of the excellent cabs build by other people on their own PC, although the interior or layout might not be exactly the same.

Thank you to the beta testers showing off some screenshots, saves me doing so :p.

I still have to adjust some things and the SCT Class should be ready for the DLS or my web site in the next 2 weeks or so.

Cheers

VinnyBarb

No worries Vinny. I wondered after I posted whether there was a generic cab used or a prototypical one. I am not familiar with this class of loco but they look interesting. Job well done in any case. I am in awe of anyone that can build in 3d as I have tried different programs but can't seem to grasp the concepts needed.

Hey all,

Y 409 shunting at 'Unknown Yard'
azervich_20120312_0003.jpg

Yes, you guessed it, it's oil burning, however I have never seen images of the tender so this is a guess,
all I know is it was converted for oil burning on 21 September 1904 then put back to coal on 29 July 1905

Cheers.
