Australian screenshots

Never heard or these can you describe them better, were you have seen them and what do they do.

Whoops, my mistake. I meant tonnage signs, as opposed to signals. They are fitted to signals at the foot of a rising grade, to prevent heavy goods trains stopping at signals on a grade, which could cause them to stall.

It basically says that trains of either 75% of full load or trains over prescribed load (as set out in working timetable) must wait until the signal the sign is attached to shows either full clear or medium, depending on the sign's location, i'm guessing.

Hope this helps,

Matt.

48's in the lead?

Jake,

I told you so!:hehe::hehe: Raichase, thanks for proving a point. I take it by 'nicer', you mean the loco with all the mod-cons? Because i prefer the 48's myself. Don't know why, i just do.

Also, at what point would the crew be in any position to take photos when working a train? Sounds kind of, well, not negligent, just odd, is all. I mean, aren't they supposed to be concentrating on other things?

Matt.
Matt,

There have been many times when 81's and 48's have worked together but as Raichase says, it's usually the 81 class leading because it's more comfortable. Interestingly though the 48 class should lead because the traction motor long term amperage rating on the 48 class is lower than that of the 81 class.

With the 81 class leading it is possible to burn out the traction motors of the poor little 48er, which I've seen happen. That's the way it was supposed to be back in the good old days anyway. I've got to admit that there weren't many time when I had the 48 on the front although I think they both are the best two locomotive classes ever built!

Thats intresting as I was always taught that you had the higest power Locomotive on the front and lower rated ones to the back, the reason being if the samller loco wheel sliped you had less chance off pushing them off the track. Well that was 20 years ago.

Intresting things are loco cabs the 45 class cabs was not as cramped as a 48 but just as bad in the wind due to draughts. And let not start on running a 44 with the B cab leading.

Hmmm. Well it was 23 years ago that I did the engine and air school and that was when I was taught about it so you would think that it was the same in all parts. I hadn't heard about the wheelslip problem though. B end? Did you come from South Australia or Victoria originally? That may explain the different teachings if you did.

And you're absolutely right about the 45 class cab. Nice a roomy. Nice and chilly too. I always liked the 48 class cab because it was cramped and cosy. Except when the window beside you didn't seal propely. Then it was hell on earth in winter.

Here we go :)

48 in the lead. And a few of Pete's (Ad602000) amazing buildings in the background.

(Either the driver has had a few or there is track work?, due to this fool was on the wrong track side)

Trent,

Beautiful shot, mate. First time I've ever seen a 48 leading an 81, and it looks kinda weird. Probably cause I'm so used to seeing the 81 leading. I like it though, and may use the combo a bit more on my route.
Nice use of the silo and mill, too.

Matt.

Hi Matt,

Yeah I find it weird seeing it that way, but since some were talking about it I had to load one into my route and take it for a run. I like the 81 class a lot, Probably my favorite loco. Have had a few runs in one when I was younger. It was a blast.

Cheers

I have a book that I like looking through, it's called "sketches from beside the line" by Kenneth G Bowen. It has wonderful sketches of all things railway. Some of you may be familiar with his work. Sadly he is no longer with us. Anyway I was looking at a station scene of Gilgandra NSW and there was an indistinct building in the far background. Luckily he did a sketch of the building a few pages on. It's a sketch of McLeods Mill, which also is no longer with us as it burnt down in the 70's

You will have to allow me some poetic licence here as it only gave partial views of the sides facing the tracks and not the back. So based on the sketch and again using known object sizes I have come up with this.

mc%27leods%20mill%20gilgandra.jpg

this will allow you to have a couple of different types of mills.

Castlereagh Flour Mill, Gilgandra

cheers

Pete,

Looks good. Another must have item. There are to few Aussie mills for trainz, that i can find anyway. The only one i know of is the built-in Allied Mill. I look forward to this one, as will others i'm sure.

Anyway, 'nough yapping. I thought since i started the discussion on the 81 vs. 48 locos, i had better post a few shots.

As with Trent's shots, the areas shown are under construction, so you'll have to exuse the rather basic texture job, and lack of trees/buildings/signs of civilization.:D

Jamie go to content manager then find the item and right click ''save to cdp'' then go to where you saved it and attach it to an email.

Cheers Luke
