is there any work being done on the john brown private coalways around the newcastle area?
i tried to find info , but not much out there
thought it would make a good route from the mines via the powerhouse to the docks
any ideas from anybody?

It's hard to find any significant info online. The best bet is this book, which is incredibly comprehensive.

I ended up getting two copies. The revised edition had some more material, and I'd almost used the first one to death... Unfortunately both are back in Australia, but the second edition contains some more info. There are a few other books out there, but this would be considered the ultimate 'gospel' of the Richmond Vale Railway. It's an expensive book, but there's a very good reason. Incredible photos, info, maps, grade diagrams... Everything needed, really.
I was working on the RVR (or at least the track over DEM terrain) before moving to the UK. It's a shame I don't have that. I had one version based in the early 80s before it closed just going to Stockrington, and one with the track at 'full' extent based in 1955.
I really ought to get that computer shipped here...
I do hope the author is continuing his work on a simillar book on the South Maitland Railways.
