First theme:

To kick things off, we'll be starting with NSW, as it probably has a larger community. As a guess.

A late steam era or transitional era coal route. At least one main colliery, if you want to add some small branches to some smaller ones, feel free. It must connect to a main line, and have the odd steep gradient here and there to make driving a bit more fun, and plenty of bush. Simple as that. I think imagination and loose themes will keep this much more diverse. It could be private or NSWGR. There's enough rollingstock on the download station for coal routes from that era to cover it. The rest is up to you.

The first prize will be $50 from me, but it MUST be through Paypal. I now live in Scotland, and I do not wish to transfer $50 via other means, as the fees will be silly. If that isn't possible I still have a Westpac account and can send the prize money with online banking, but this is only for people who have no Paypal account. For example, if the winner is too young. If you are young and don't have a bank account or Paypal account, ask your parents first.

If there are enough finished entries, I may increase this prize, and include smaller 2nd and 3rd place prizes.

If there is only a a very small amount of entries, I'll not bother with future competitions. If a good amount of folk enter and release their routes, this may end up with bigger prizes.

THIS WILL BE THE ONLY COMPETION INVOLVING VERSIONS OF TRAINZ BELOW TC3. A fond farewell.

Direct questions at this thread, and not here for the competition!

And please, give it a go!

The next theme won't be NSW if this works out, so eventually all folk get to play around with their favourite state. Although I do encourage people to try and add entries if they aren't familliar with the state. This just keeps things more fun and imaginitive, don't you think?

A NSW Question
When you have a turn-out, from a mainline to a branch, do points run parallel to the track for 10m or 20m or do they flick out straight away??

Hi everyone,
Been working on my Western NSW layout, and now that Forest_Runner has started 'NSWGR Western Division', my layout has been totally owned by it's realism and awesomeness.:hehe: Actually, Forest_Runner, where did you get that General Store, and, what houses do you use for your layouts?
Just two pics, it needs a bit of work, but hey, it's going alright I reckon...

Finally bothered to put up some power lines, and change the silo at Woomburra to something a bit more respectable, anywho, NSWGR 5909 works a goods train on it's way to Mackellar. In this picture, she is paused at a signal.

mitch456yui201007090003.jpg

After the signal clears, 5909 pounds out of Woomburra, and over Woomburra Creek, and clatters over a road crossing. Later, at Mackellar, she will return back to the mainline junction at Cannia Hill with some old wooden bodied gravel trucks, due to be replaced with more modern, bogie hoppers. July 9th 1963.

Great work everyone, and I'll just scamper back and keep working on this route, any ideas or queries, just gimme a shout.:)

Thanks,
Mitch

Off-topic

Lately, I've been seeing in places that TRS2006 will no longer be supported on the DLS (or something alike). Does anyone have any links to a post with more information on it? My searching attempts failed miserably to find an official post.

If it's true, then that's going to be an annoying set back for the CityRail project.

so i might be wasting my time to.
06 works like a clock on my computer
09 got a few bugs
question is do i transfer 06 to 09 and i'll be able to uploaded it

cheers,
patchy

Hi guys,

Could somebody please point out a comprehensive list of (freight) rolling-stock commonly in use in NSW, within, say, the last five years? Haven't really been able to find much on the 'net. Is there anything out there, that you know of?

Matt.

Matt,
here's a link to a site with lists of NSW or National Rail ROA coded vehicles in NSW: http://www.nswrollingstock.com/allroacodes.htm
That's post 1980, so that should give you some help, what exactly are you looking for?
Thanks,
Mitch

Cheers for the fast reply, i'll have a look at it. What i'm after is basically a list of rollingstock commonly in use in NSW today, so i can sort through what is available for trainz, to enable me to put together a few realistic consists for modern era sessions/routes.

Edit: Post 90's i can pretty much scratch Louvered, Livestock, Refrigerated and Guards vans, can't i?

Matt.

Hi Trainzerz!!!

Davido mate, how long did it take you to build that route??? I am currently building a small route, about 9 0r so boards, which I am hoping to release, it is my first shot at anything major-ish. I want it to be mostly perfect i every detail. It has a small narrow gauge yard, and standard gauge yard. A station by the name of Darnasuss Station, then continues along the line. Passes the entry point to the standard gauge small yard. Then continues to West Empire Forest Station. Goes uphill sorta, to Empire Forest Station which is surrounded by trees. Is anyone interested in trying out my first route?? I would like some feddback on wheter it is good or not.

Thanks, SARRailways :D:):D:)
