QR NG ans SARN4T

Hi Trainzerz!!


I have tried to download some Narrow Gauge QR content. Diesels work fine. Wagons work fine. But the NG version wagons wont. It says that the mesh is out of date, but it isnt for the normal wagons. Please help. Interesting talk there Ed. Sounds good. Is TRS2009 included?? If so, I might join in on it. Does anyone know what has happned to those SARN4T Routes. Noarlunga Centre was due to be released in 2004 and I've only got theone where it ends at Brighton. Please help.

The original route builder, Redbull, sadly passed away before completion of the route. A couple of other guys around at the time who heavily supported the project have moved on from Trainz/TRS to pursue other interests.

There seems to be a bit of an explosion of interest in module-style routes. Would a few folk give some thoughts to this small and simple idea of mine?

I'll add a bit of background first though. Although many of the modular routes are great, there's only so much one can do with a one or two baseboard route. They look fantastic, but there's not much more than shunting one can do on many of these.

What I suggest is some minor small route building competitions.

For example, over the course three weeks to one month we give a theme, such as a narrow gauge VR route, a Western NSW route, a private coal company's route, or an old QR branch line. Anything, really. Something like this should have a maximum of five to seven baseboards. Something managable. Included in the theme could be the type of cargo carried, and I would say that point to point layouts would be best.

I would also suggest that content could be gained from anywhere that is easily available. Not just DLS only, but from reliable websites also that aren't neglected.

I would suggest these to be released for the versions of Trainz that will be supported after September. If though someone can't afford or isn't willing to use say, any version released after '06, it wouldn't be hard to 'buddy up' and make sure they work with newer versions.

If there is interest in this idea, shout out a few words. Although something like this would be a friendly competition, I would be willing to offer a minor prize for a 'winner' for the mere sake of encouragement. Perhaps a payware article or some such, or even more? If there were enough folk entering in one of these, I'd be happy to offer multiple prizes to the top three or so.

Does this sound worthwhile? If I get a few people responding to this post who are interested and would like to set some rules, I'll start a new thread on it, and we can go from there.

So. What do y'all think?

As Forest_Runner has found out by getting nasty emails from releaseing his South Aussie route.
BUT never let that discourage anyone from relaseing route's that they have enjoyed makeing to give to others.

I had no idea that Redbull had passed away. Its a shame that his route was not finished, I was looking forward to it. I know about the other routes, I have downloaded them. I remeber going on sarail's website SAR Trainz and seeing that someone wrote that they were continuing the SARN4T Routes and making the Victor Line and many of the other country lines such as Port Pirie, Mount Gambier etc. Sorry to hear (especially so late) that Redbull has passed.

That link should answer a few questions. Looks like, from a quick read, FreightRail was formed in 1988, following restructuring of the rail service in NSW, then restructured, again, in '96; which is when FreightRail was renamed Freightcorp.
