Whoa - no complaints here Pete! Looks outstanding! I'm currently using the VR Wheat Silo, is that the one you're redoing? Either way, all the more grain silos the better.

Will this one be industry interactive, or just trackside scenery?

They can't be that bad, pete. Last i checked, just about every shot in this thread featured at least one.

Still, it'll be good to see something different for once.:D

Matt.

I have been trying to get back into Trainz for a while and lately have been playing on a layout I had thought I would upload to the DLS. Here are some shots I took recently.

We took a trip out to a nice picnic ground at Moreton Downs. Had just finished lunch when the unmistakable sound of a steamer was heard coming along the track near the picnic area. (It is known as a popular site for the local trainspotting fraternity.) Grabbed the camera and got this first shot.

Followed by this one as she rocketed past the park at full steam. A wonderful sight and sound.

Quickly got the family into the car and headed for the township of Preston where I knew it would be heading. Just got the car parked and the camera set up and heard the powerful sound of her coming down the road.

Here she enters the station area..

..and passes over the level crossing into the station.

Not quite as good as some recent posts but I hope you enjoy them.

I beleive it were you who were making an SAR Steam Engine. Hows that coming along?? Like the grain silos. Very Nice :Y::Y:

Thanks, SARRailways :):D:):D

Glen,

Don't be so quick to judge, mate. As you said, you only just got the camera set up to take the shots.:hehe: You did well under pressure; especially as the family wouldn't have liked lunch being abruptly aborted; all so you could go chase trains!:D

Seriously, they look alright to me. It's nice and simple. I like it.

Also, just noticed i've hit 300+ posts, almost half of which have been made here. Do i need a life?

Matt.

I for one have a vested interest in those silos, Pete... they're quality, mate!!

Just a couple of WIP's from the NSW Western Division steam era... (note silos :p )...

Hi Guy, been a while since i posted and the quality of all your shots are amazing, love the details, it inspires me to build my own routes ;)

So here is the beginnings of my new route (about 2-3 hours work so far)
The Larry Railway Preservation Society (or LRPS for short)

Larry is a small town located on a 3km passing loop on a central outback mainline and the LRPS runs trains on the branch line that leaves from Larry.
Anyway some shots (still early days, i know, but i felt like showing you guys :p )

First we've got NR12 and C501 on a freighter passing through Larry, with a couple of Gunzels on the end of the platform (branchline in distance)

The freight now racing past Larry station [with platform extension] (with 48116 shunting in LRPS yard)
ekni123201007060001.jpg

An overview of LRPS yard at Larry as the freight rolls past and 48116 assembles the days train
ekni123201007060002.jpg

2 of LRPS's steamers, 5308 (yet to be turned) and 5585, are prepared for todays double header, with 8166, 4825 and 4712 sit in the yard.
ekni123201007060003.jpg

48116 completes the train for the trip in the departure siding, as 620/720, 621/721 and HPC401 sit in LRPS railmotor siding. Also Larry's old loading dock and goods shed in the foreground
ekni123201007060004.jpg

LRPS's remaining loco's (that reside at the Larry Depot) 4401, 7301, 7302, 7303 and 3526, sit in Larry depot sheds and also some of LRPS's rolling stock (inc. some ex-Southern Aurora cars)

I know it's not much (at the moment) but i hope you guys like it
maybe back with more shots soon (hopefully Larry will be finished)

P.s. I have no idea why I called it Larry, it was the first thing that poped into my head, lol :hehe:

There seems to be a bit of an explosion of interest in module-style routes. Would a few folk give some thoughts to this small and simple idea of mine?

I'll add a bit of background first though. Although many of the modular routes are great, there's only so much one can do with a one or two baseboard route. They look fantastic, but there's not much more than shunting one can do on many of these.

What I suggest is some minor small route building competitions.

For example, over the course three weeks to one month we give a theme, such as a narrow gauge VR route, a Western NSW route, a private coal company's route, or an old QR branch line. Anything, really. Something like this should have a maximum of five to seven baseboards. Something managable. Included in the theme could be the type of cargo carried, and I would say that point to point layouts would be best.

I would also suggest that content could be gained from anywhere that is easily available. Not just DLS only, but from reliable websites also that aren't neglected.

I would suggest these to be released for the versions of Trainz that will be supported after September. If though someone can't afford or isn't willing to use say, any version released after '06, it wouldn't be hard to 'buddy up' and make sure they work with newer versions.

If there is interest in this idea, shout out a few words. Although something like this would be a friendly competition, I would be willing to offer a minor prize for a 'winner' for the mere sake of encouragement. Perhaps a payware article or some such, or even more? If there were enough folk entering in one of these, I'd be happy to offer multiple prizes to the top three or so.

Does this sound worthwhile? If I get a few people responding to this post who are interested and would like to set some rules, I'll start a new thread on it, and we can go from there.

So. What do y'all think?

using the VR Wheat Silo
No that is a reasonably recent model based on the Geelong Silo and I'm not remodelling that. These are strictly NSWGR silos and where I can gain basic dimensions i will be creating them so that you will have a range from the small S08 to the larger ones. I also have a drawing for another Victorian one.

These are scenery items and not industry interactive, although if there is someone who knows how I'd be happy to send them the mesh or whatever they need

cheers

Forest_Runner, very nice screenshots again. You keep raising the bar every time you post some pics. Look forward to see more mate.

Cheers

Yeah its a nice idea.
However (damn it there is always a however :'( )

After just loading 2010, I have found several "annoyances"

The first is that I have tried to join several of muile's new NSW layouts together
unsuccessfully Merge is busted and it is not easy to fix the newly created layout.

The second thing is that orientation and land mass heights have to be strictly controlled, you have to put a lot of boards between two sections that are 600 metres apart in height.

It would be nice if Auran could think about a tool that allows you to lift or lower a module, and turn it to a different direction, even if restricted to only 4 points on the compass.

I am not sure but if you built the modules in 2006, merged them there and imported them to 2009/10 they might work??
I tried this with mulie's but it did not work because he has built them already in 2010, and they will not run in 2006
Cheers

sounds like a great idea Boobles Ed, I'll be in on it :)

Could be very interesting indeed Ed, well thought out idea, and may well be the spark I need to reignite my modular building muses (who after an enforced AFK from main PC, have gone into sulking).

Boobless_Ed,

Sounds like an interesting idea. I would like to participate, however as i have '06 and am in no position to purchase '09/10, i think i'd have to sit this one out.

However, i'll wait till a thread with rules, etc is started with more information before i make up my mind. And you can blame Muliebucks' 'exile' for the interest in modular routes. Without his works popping up every night or two, we start to go into withdrawal. The only solution is to build our own; or we'll start bouncing of the walls.

I look forward to developments with regards to this idea.

Matt.
