Australian screenshots

Psycho Aussie, that is one butt ugly engine and it must be a relative to a UK Class 58 (that said even Bone's (or fitted Wardrobes) are more beautiful than the one that you just posted screenie's of!

BTW, did anyone else go/is going to Murwullimbah Model train show?

Woah Chris, she looks a pearler... The yellow seems a bit sharp as to how I've visualised your screens, but otherwise you've done a great job.

Supposing you have some finishing touches to catch up on! :)

This is the biggest reason why I think they should go back to the Blue Livery, it was more Australian like, and any railfan could instantly recognise that it was QR....... At least they didn't paint the 1720's in the new livery, there's a few floating around my area with the old blue livery.

To those of you who think the 2800 is ugly, go look at QR's new 3700-3800 classes. Bricks on wheels...

Bruce, the 2800 will come out in 3ft 6in, again... They will be using a slightly upgraded version of my NG 2800 bogey.

chuffbuff, I am aware of how bright the yellow is, and it does need toning down, but I also have some weathering to apply to the loco as well, which will help tone the yellow down a bit. I also have a bit more detail to put into both the QRN and QR 2800 liveries, so they won't be available for a month or so...

Chris

@2001. Caught up to a FA Train consisting of some empty container flats as well as some empty VHAY and VHGF hoppers heading for Waubra. Up the front was G511, S307 and T371 all still in V/Line Livery (A rare sight):

We then drove to Ballarat Racecourse to find T378 with a WCR Special sitting at the Platform:

A view from the rear:

Here we see the FA Train proceeding around the corner whilst the special gets ready to depart:

Don't know how this shot was taken :p:

OK, a question that I may know the answer to but thought I would get some opinions on it.

Noel (nbrettoner) and I are working on a layout that covers a disused line from Narrandera to Tocumwal and it is set around the 1940's to 1950's. At Tocumwal there was the change over of tracks from Standard Gauge (NSW) to Broad Gauge (Victoria). Our layout is coving the NSW part but we are still putting in the Victorian side for the Tocumwal Yards and using Portals on the Victorian side of the Murray River.

The amount of Victorian line is not much, just at Tocumwal so the question is basically should we have Broad Gauge track for the Victorian part of the yard? Then if we do, is there enough Rolling Stock including Locos, Livestock and Grain etc that are Broad Gauge. If we go this way, are there any suggestions on Broad Gauge tracks we could use.

My initial thought is to use Standard Gauge for both, but with different tracks for the Victorian tracks and the NSW tracks. Noel thinks the use of Broad Gauge may be better and he may be right, considering any Victorian Rolling Stock would show the Victorian Logo's for much of the Stock.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Craig (and Noel)

P.S. This may have been covered before in this thread but I am afraid 222 pages is a lot of reading :D:D:D

Thebigman,
Downloaded your items and they are certainly coming in handy on my current layout. Keep up the good work.

On another note: Does anyone know where I can get hold of a gated siding. I have one already with a timber gate, but I was looking more for a wire fence type gated siding that opens as the train approaches and then closes when it has gone past.

Regards,
Warren.

sad to read in trainzdev forum that WCS has suspended operations indefinitely, I hope all is well with both parties

cheers

It's certainly a shame, as what I and others have seen from them, they would be sorely missed. We can only hope that some content might filter down onto the DLS for the earlier versions, or that they might release as payware for the earlier versions so that their efforts don't go to waste.

Warren.

I've got some 'VR' tracks in the 'works' at the moment. At this stage, I need to do a major re-think of them (I'm getting lost with them :( ). They come in BG, SG, and 'dual gauge' (only has the inner rail for SG, and a 'plane' to line up with the other rail). Still a while away though...

May I ask what the 'time frame' for the layout is at this stage? As I can possibly send the current beta to you :)

Zec, one of the main features of our layout will be a US WWII Airfield at Tocumwal and Noel has been researching that for 4 years. This will be the most detailed part plus some of the NSW track that is SG. For the moment I can use 2 SG tracks and later convert the Vic SG track to BG, so that is not a problem ...... easy to do with 2004 and TO.

In a way I am thinking of the Rolling Stock more and as I have not thought much about this, that to me may be the main reason on which way we choose to go. If there are a few Loco's and other BG Rolling Stock we can use then BG would be best.

So to answer your question, there is heaps of time. If you wish a beta tester then we could do this for you, and it would be easier if you could suggest some Rolling Stock to test with. I am working on the yards now and it will be easy to add an extra track for testing. Also, I think there is a small amount of dual gauge as well, I will look at this but from memory not much really. I did look on the Vic site but got a little "lost" so thought of asking here first.

Many thanks,

Craig

cjlear made some S and B classes on BG (and SG).

I've released the QB, ALX, M, MB, WT, T, and KMQ on BG (and SG). I've also released some BG bogies ('XSC' roller bearing bogies, and a couple of 'bogies' for 4 wheel wagons, there is a 'compatible' one that will work under most of ad602000's rolling stock).

I've currently got a Z van under construction that will have a BG version.

My 'W' type cars are also BG/SG (via script).

I've also got a BG version of my V class steamer, and my K class is BG/SG (via script). I've also got a low nose T class under construction that is BG/SG (via script).

And of course, there is always more under construction :) :P

I'll see how this weekend goes... May actually get the 'TRS04' version of the track finished! :P

Hi Warren,

There's some about. One type (Euopean?, not English language) is a steel sliding gateway in various colours.
Others are at 45 degree angle to the track, as well as 90 degrees.

Any suggestions folks??

Hi Anthony & Zec,

Thanks for your input on our little project.
We really appreciate all the generous assistance we've had & continue to get on this.

Yes there's some dual gauge at Tocumwal yard. In fact Tocumwal was I
where some historic "3rd rail" testing was conducted, publicly.

It will be great to have the three rail types (NSW/VIC & 3rd-rail).
A tremendous amount of stuff has gone through Tocumwal over the years,
& during the war effort it was one of the most strategic places in the Southern Hemisphere.

well, the 'common rail' is definitely in the pack. Just a little difficult to setup... Namely you only have one rail on the 'DG' set, and then a 'plane' to indicate where the common rail needs to sit. I'll look at some 'spacer' scenery pieces to help with the setup though... :)

Thanks Zec.

As Craig's doing the yard, I'm sure he'll appreciate that.
