Bit of a slap in the face for Aussie route creators - thanks
H222.
You just mentioned my Old "Brisbane South B" have you perchance downloaded the updated version for Tane ?
A couple of years ago Auran asked me to update this Version but i refused as it had been superseded in 2004.
It was started back in 2002.
If so Don't blame me for this version I DID NOT do this update !
Norm.
Bloody nora! That's Railworks quality there! Is that locomotive on the DLS as freeware?
Those steam effects are making me drool.. you can use it as water for the locomotive.. :hehe::mop:
Brisbane South 04 I'm referring to Norm.
Brisbane trams runs well and looks good in TANE.
Sorry Dave, that's the truth. There are more routes with one texture solid baseboards and using UTC assets than there are that take advantage of brand spanking new stuff. Much of JointedRail's assets are globalised and generic. I've used dozens of their buildings in my Modern Geelong Line, despite it apparently having no scenery (cough, Mick)
And before someone has a go at me not contributing: good routes take time.
Currently im building Melbourne-Geelong in its modern (2010) form (80km), including the Sunbury Line to sunshine (another 15km) (meaning Tottenham yard). Most trackwork is done (at least the most complex areas).
In combination with this, I'm building the very urban section North of Caulfield of the Frankston Line that Mussels412/Luke is building (his route is fantastic so far) to eventually link with my layout.
As well as this, I'm building the Port Melbourne Line in its Late 30s/40s form, only about 10km but has 2 of the most complex yards one can imagine (Jolimont and Melbourne Good's yard). Plus Flinders St Station and Spencer St
I'm also supposed to be adding final touches to Tom's Bdale-Orbost line, especially regarding trackwork, when the route works in my TANE that is.
Now ive got that out of the way: roast me.
Taggy:
it takes the same amount of time to lay HD track or put down HD textures as it does UTC stuff.
Unfortunately it's the truth mate. A lot of the Aussie routes available to download are extremely outdated compared to today's standards. Just check out what the Yanks are dishing up in the JointedRail screenshot section, their work is nothing short of amazing with how realistic it looks. Rastis, Scratchy and Zec have shown in the last few pages here what a great route should look like, with the use of HD textures and assets that are up to today's game standards. Patchy's Cooma layout is the only layout I can think of that is available to download that takes advantage of the new HD assets available. The other problem is a lot of the Aussie layouts being built are just fictional and are just based on certain areas. We have available DEM data through a couple of Trainz users that anyone can request, which makes the game a whole lot more realistic. My upcoming Bairnsdale to Orbost line takes advantage of that, as does Zec's Healesville layout, and I wish a lot more route builders would consider going down the DEM path (trust me, makes it so much easier to build the route, everything is shown in colours for you where the tracks go, roads, fences, etc.).
If any route builders out there are building a HD route and need help with the creaion of custom HD assets, I am happy to help
Boys,
A lot of us do our best. No one has to release what they do, it's done to give us at least something to play with.
Many, like myself, are full time workers and don't have time to sit and make something out of nothing.
Yes, the standard is improving and their are some beautiful routes being created, but that doesn't give anyone the right to **** all over what others have done, no matter how outdated it is. Not everyone has the skill (including myself) to build a line to the quality of Healsville and it's unfair to expect everything be built to this level.
I have have been working on a DEM of the NSW South Coast line and I don't find it easy at all. A lot of work is required scouring Google Earth and thousands of photos to have it remotely resemble the actual location and to do a protoypical route adds a lot of pressure, mostly "that shouldn't be there or that is wrong". The other hard part is the lack of Custom content to make it real. I can't build stuff and so my project suffers. It is nice to see someone finally offer a hand (you have no idea what you've got yourself into Lesley ) but most moan about it and move on instead if lending a hand.
Im not writing this to point fingers but I think we should be grateful for what we get and if we want better stuff, we as a community need to pitch in. I'll take any help with content I can get.
I didn't mean it like thatWell that's an insult.
