Asset Updates

My Main Menu in TS2010 now shows 12 updates waiting for download, but selection of this menu item brings up a blank list (so I can't see what the updates are and can't, therefore, find them on DLS).

I brought this problem up with the Helpdesk on 17th November, along with some problems regarding faulty/missing assets. All the other propblems have been resolved but despite three further messages, Helpdesk is not responding.

Does anyone out there know how to deal with this problem? There's enough out of date stuff out there already. Having to miss out on updates is unacceptable.

I have 41 items listed as "updateable". All 41 of them, when I go to 'show asset versions' come up as available on the DLS. But, when I actually try and download them, they ALL will fail with the error: "cannot obtain the URL for this item" OR the Download Helper simply ignores them and removes them from the window.

Sure seems strange that CM thinks it is able to update them, and then can't find out how to do it.

EDR doesn't work in this case.

I cleaned all mine up then a few days ago I ended up with 3. These show up as having an update, but the update is not available on the DLS.

How did I clean the others up?
I did this in Content Manager. I setup a filter first for Out-of-Date & location=local.

This separate tab gives me a quick check while in Content Manager, which I am in nearly every day.

With this filter in place, I select items and right click on them to show asset versions.

Invert the selection to choose the DLS icon'd updates, then show these in the main list.

I then download the available items as listed.

Sometimes the DLS is ahead of the downloaded database update, so you sometimes have to check the black pages on the old DLS website.

I do the exact same thing. My results varied. I am left with 41 items that ALL show up with a question mark in the pop-up when I want to "show asset versions". Dragging and dropping into the download helper does nothing.

In-game, I am always reminded that I have "41 updates" but I get a script error when I try to download any of them.

The system is broken and isn't going to be fixed.

It may be that the updates were uploaded over the last 24-48 hours, and Content Manager is not aware of them properly yet.

I share a bad opinion about Update Assets. Something as simple as this should be fixed. Maybe they could release the source code and let a customer code it.:o

If you look at the build number of most of them you will find it is to high for 2010 which is 3.3. Whoever made the updates for the 2010 assets did not take this in not consideration.

Most of them have build numbers in the 1's (like 1.3) There are some scattered builds in the 2's, but not many. 12 of the 41 are built-ins, which really worries me. If it's built-in, then why can't it be updated?

Here are a couple of screen shots of the 'show asset versions' of the built-in items:

As you can see, I have the interim version installed. The original and the update are unknown to CM. Very strange.

Been there, done that, got the tee shirt. No response.

EDIT: I tried once more. Ticket submitted.

I thought it was just me and/or my database! I've had the same sort of thing a few times recently, I simply resort to a manual search of the Black Pages and FTP the newest revision to the desktop. It is always there (and I just located both of yours Bill). How can CM be aware that a new revision exists, but not be able to locate it? Strange...

Andy ;)

Yeah, Andy. I did consider doing manual searches. But, dagnabbit, CM should be able to do this all in one swoop. I shouldn't have to resort to the black pages for this kind of thing. I've got 41 updates and that's a lot of clicking. It should/needs to be fixed at the source.

Bill

I see this kind of thing on the DLS Cleanup. The database is really ganked up. The only thing you can really do is report the items and also let them know if you can get them off the Black Pages or not.

Shane,
Thanks for your earlier solution to my initial problem. I have now downloaded and installed all but four of the updates I started out with (plus one or two new ones).
When selecting the four remaining ones, the pop-up appears with the "Download/Install" button greyed out. Checking in CMP shows that what appear to be the latest of all four assets are present locally (and another database repair makes no change).
Is this a problem with my data base or something for N3V to work on? Can I get them off my waiting list somehow?

Now - forgive my ignorance - but what and where are the "black pages"?

Mike

Way up at the top of this page there are several links. To the very right is one labeled "Download Station". Going there takes you to what we call "the black pages" since the page is mostly black. Enter your searches there to find things that CM won't give you.
