For reasons other than Trainz I have been doing some research into remote server hosting. A story caught my eye this morning regarding Australia's future for the internet. In particular the proposed imposed filtering and the impact that will have on an already "not the fastest" service in the world. See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8517829.stm
I was wondering do Auran operate their own internet servers? If they do is it time to move the servers "overseas" to a faster and lower cost environment. Judging from the many posts in the forum regarding difficulties in speed and connectivity it could be a "win, win" for the whole Trainz community.
I have been amazed at the high service reliability (with multiple mirrors) and low cost of server farms during my visiting this market. For the 'punter' they would get the service they want and for Auran they would lower their overhead and free up personnel.
Just an idle thought over lunch. . . . I wonder . . . :Y: or :n: ?
