Wonderful Idea

American connections,

you are a saint for coming up with this idea, it means a lot to me.

thanks guys for all your submissions, your showing me the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi American Connections.

Thanks for pointing me back to this thread. I've bookmarked it for future reference.

These are real goldmines - and will be even more valuable after September.

Hopefully more will be added.

Happy Easter everybody.

Cheers
Casper

RRSignal, That's a very easy thing to say, especially without qualification or proof. Maybe you'd like to share your reasons for picking on this Toolbar supplier in particular?

I don't use any toolbars myself, but I think JRT from Trainz Magazine has done plenty of research on this one and given it the thumbs up. Also, many people are using it and I haven't heard any complaints - yet. I'd use it myself, but I need all the real estate I can get on the screen.

Wo Hoss!

...The provider behind this one is dodgy at best...
Just what are you talking about here, Sounds abit like the provider of a certain train simulator that provides zero support of late that we all know of! :hehe:
Just kiddin, I use the tool bar often. It has links to all trainz sites, many outside asset creator's links from Auran's DLS, and a very good search function.

At the moment I am working on some new features and more links for the toolbar.

Never, ever, ever install any "toolbar", under any circumstances, and regardless of who provides it and what the vendor promises. The provider behind this one is dodgy at best. Do your friends a favor and tell them too.

I use the toolbar myself, and have found that it does not take too much resources away from processing as well as there is no ad/spyware in it.

Could you specify the problem please.

Thanks,
JRT

I'd point to kuid.ru but I am sure most of you already know it. Handy for those lost Russian kuids.

Relax, relax. You're right, I shouldn't have said anything: Being in the infosec biz, I shouldn't be biting the hand that feeds me.

However, let me just said that the basis for my statements is that the Conduit toolbar does phone home. Although they claim not to transmit personally-identifiable information, their own privacy policy is open-ended (as almost all of them are) meaning they can change it anytime they please. It also appears to add its own "search engine," though that by itself isn't dangerous.

It has a history of sending unique identifiers, which can be tied to personal information either immediately or retroactively. Fortunately, their privacy policy indicates they they do not presently do this, and, as we all know, software publishers never, ever lie. Or change their policies or terms-of-service or get bought out or go bankrupt...

And I've seen too many vendors of software - mainly promoters of "toolbars" like this - fail to disclose, if not outright lie, about what their software really does.

It's possible to properly CYA by filtering Conduit's home servers or home IPs, but this not a procedure most people are aware of let alone actually do.

  1. From toolbar users: Conduit does not collect (and the toolbar does not transmit) information that can personally identify a toolbar user and does not track URLs visited by toolbar users. The toolbar sends unidentifiable, non-personal statistical data to Conduit's servers to help us improve our services and our product support. This non-personal data includes a count of clicks on toolbar components and unidentifiable toolbar queries. Toolbar users can opt not to send such statistical data at any time from their Toolbar Options dialog box.
Conduit may share with a toolbar Publisher aggregated and no
n-personal data about clicks on toolbar components by his toolbar users.

Updates: In the event that we change this Privacy Policy, we will post the changes on our website and revise the "last updated" date on the document. We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy to stay informed about how we protect the privacy rights of our Publishers and their users. A continued use of our platform and products constitutes an agreement to this Privacy Policy and any updates.

As the creator of the toolbar, I have read the Conduit Privacy.

The reason why you believe this is because the creator of the toolbar can have the toolbar collect info about there users. I can tell you now, that I do not have this feature on.

Also, Conduit is a partner with Webs and with Google (I think we can trust Google) plus I hope you can trust me.

If you have anymore questions, let me know.

Actually, I trust Google less than anyone else on the net, especially in light of their acquisition of Doubleclick, but it's easy to protect yourself if you know what you're doing. At least, right now.

But I do take your word that you've disabled the phone home feature, thank you. That's the one that worried me most of all.

Well, you have to remember. I use the toolbar my self, so I want to make it safe for me and all Trainzers.

Your Personal DLS

... Everyone will say that I can either upload to 3rd party sites or create for TS2010. First, there is no 3rd party site that I have enough confidence in...
Mike
If anyone would like, I will help you set up a website through Yola to host your 04/06 content. With this option you simply need a thumbnail, discription, and CDP, all of which you have already for Auran's DLS. So will not be so much work, and you will control it! Then you add and update as you wish.

Although Trainz Polish Team got under my radar, the other two, plus a dozen or more additional Polish sites are listed in the Trainz Resources Directory. (Link)

As with most of the listings in this thread and in the TRD, it's not the web site owners who supply the information, it's people like you and I. For some really strange reason, too many Trainzers create web sites and then refuse to promote them. It's almost as if they've done it to boost there own ego and nothing else.

Threads like this one have a limited life in the Forums, but the TRD is always there as a reference. So to is the Trainz Wiki, and a page on the Auran site, but how many web site owners have bothered to get a listing on any of them? In the case of the TRD, about 4 people have approached me. I found the rest of the sites myself.

Then we have the Trainz WebRing. (Link) Despite much publicity, hardly any web site owners have volunteered to share their sites. I get about one request a month, but once they find they have to share their visitors with others the loose interest. The participating sites get a lot of traffic, but they'd get a lot more if other web site owners joined up.

Sad but true!
