Where do downloaded assets go in the computer?

Another 'ignorant rookie' question here.

Once an asset, like Icebreaker's GP9 High Hood Undec KUID: 135744:7 has been downloaded, where does it go in here?

Am highly paranoid about ignorantly poking through program files to see what is what for fear of messing things up.

Done that kind of thing before, don't want to do it again.

Open CMP, Click on search filter "today" and it should be there. It's permanent residence would be the local folder. probably under a name that you would not recognize.

Oh, left out an import ant bit in initial post - should have been said where are they to find them to open file to reskin in a photo editing program.

All your TRS2006 assets are in your Auran/TRS2006/"local" file, under an encrypted code that is indecypherable.

Your "local" file is something that you will save and transfer, if you uninstall/reinstall TRS2006.

My local file started out a 7 Gb, and is continually growing the more I download, and is now 65 Gb in size.

I periodicly save it, in case of catastophic PC failure.

You can edit an asset using the TRS2006 CMP, "Edit in Explorer".

i am new to this game i got it today have watched loads of vids of thomas etc now i am trying to get him and friends on to trainz 2009 but when i go onto conten manager and i try log on to pa it says no and i don't know what to do because it is so confusing help me plz

Thomas stuff is located at this site http://si3d.jimdo.com/
Download items to a folder on your computer then start Trainz Content Manager and select File - Import CDPs and point to the folder that you saved the Thomas items in. After you import them they may be open for edit so select the Content Manager's Open for Edit tab and if anything is there, select them and press Ctrl M to commit them (moves them into the database so they can be used in the Trainz).

This little box of bits and bytes has a, uhh, what's the side of the box say - - holy gigabytes Batman!, you're kidding, a 500 gig hard drive? Wow.
(Parents got it for me while I was ill and unemployed last year, so the stats haven't stuck in the brain)

That's where the frustration was coming from - was still in the mindset of start the photo program, GIMP in this case, then open the GP38 file into it.

With the help of some posts and a couple people's tutorials came to understand the way it works is open the image program from the GP38's file while editing in Explorer.

Okay, I'll have it all figured out in about 6 years or so.

Yeah, there absolutely is a learning curve here.

A 1 Tb external hard drive costs less than $100, and is great for storage of large files, and all your other stuff. (mine sits in front of a desktop fan in hot weather to keep it cool).

A RW-DVD is rewritable (changes as yor local file grows) but only holds 4.67 Gb.

And a memory stick usually is @ 2, or 8,or @ up to 24 Gb.

Possibly I could put my 65 Gb "local' folder in a zip folder, and save it on one of the above.

Free Irfanview is a great image manipulation program, once you learn how to run it.

The config files are easily edited in MS Notepad.

Free Photobucket is easy for sharing screenshots.

The MS Snipping Tool easily saves your monitor screenshots as a jpg to your PC Pictures file ... as PrtSc key saves it as a TGA in Auran/TRS2006/Screenshots, which needs to be converted to a jpg on the forums.

Why do all newer versions use this system of file storage, but 2004 had all the files out in the open? So now you're required to use the Content Manager to view or edit files. You can't go to Dispatcher/Downloads anymore.

Actually, you don't have to rely on CMP that much when it comes to editing - at least, I don't. Once you have opened an asset for editing, you should be able to find the asset folder inside of the "editing" folder within the TRS06 directory. Once you've got that, you should be able to change anything in much the same way that you could in TRS04. I just got 2010, so I'm not sure if it works the same yet.

I believe the change was made from the '04 system because having all of the assets in a database improves loading times and makes Trainz run better, but I'm not sure. Personally, now that I've gotten used to this way of doing things, I find it hard to go back to '04.
