Obviously very happy Auran picked a Britisih prototype from a purely selfish point of view (sorry!). But has been already said, a real shame they picked a prototype that has already been modelled so well by LMS_MAN, when there were a good few other top link loco's they could have done. That said, I'll buy it anyway, so maybe they've got it right after all.

The real question to me now is whether this will be a pack like the Blue Comet, and if so, will we get any Stanier coaches? :D

Regards,

Anthony

I only got it right because I live in Liverpool, and they used to visit Liverpool back in the day, they looked superb in red and black...:udrool:

Grew up near Scarborough, and Duchess of Sutherland has been a staple of the 'Scarborough Flyer' service since the early 80s, so I've seen them many a time, despite not being old enough to remember BR Steam.

The Coronation/Duchesses are actually one of the most prototypical steam locomotives on the Scarborough Flyer too, since they routinely ran cross-country hauls for the tourist season under LMS and BR days. Even through the 60s and 70s they continued to run the service as Billy Butlin bought a couple of the Duchesses from BR (including, iirc, Sutherland -checks, yep) and ran them to the Butlins camp at Filey

Ah! Waking up in a cold little wooden shack at Butlin's Holiday camp at Filey, those were the days.

Re the voting being misleading, you are correct, I thought it was for "what should we do next?" So cross off a Castle vote and add a Coronation one. BTW I have one from LMS_MAN and it runs great.:)

Dave

Certainly shows that the majority of train simmers, know nothing about railways. Apart from modern rubbish.

Well, then teach them about the old railways! We'll all born very naked and very ignorant. As we live our lives, we only manage to become knowledgeable on the few subjects we're exposed to! ;)

I'm old enough to remember seeing steam locomotives still in revenue service. But those younger than I never had that opportunity. If they're lucky, they might get some limited exposure to old trains via an occasional excursion train or by visiting a tourist railway still operating (some) steam locomotives.

It's up to old farts like myself to pass along the "old ways" to the youngsters, otherwise it'll be largely lost. But unless we present as something fascinating it'll just be more of the boring stuff that is quickly forgotten. The good news is that old trains are very fascinating to most -- especially so to children and young adults. I've never seen a kid that wasn't in complete awe of a steam locomotive.

While excursion and tourist trains may be few, we can recreate and depict the golden age of railways thanks to simulation software such as a Trainz. But even the best Trainz model or route needs a compelling story to interest people in it. Thankfully, it is possible to present history in compelling ways -- and thanks to today's technology, it's now easier than ever before to do so.

I'm rather ignorant of non-American railways. Unfortunately, my Welsh ancestors weren't able to pass along the sum of their life-experiences via DNA. I certainly hold no ill will towards non-U.S. railways, but growing up in the U.S., I've have had no direct exposure to them and have been exposed to few educational opportunities regarding them. Tell me a compelling tale however, about these "foreign" lines, and I'll certainly sit and listen. :)

Hi wva-usa,

Excellent post above, thank you.

Please note that not agreeing with IKB mayl land you on his ... ignore...list. I have made that list.:) I am happy to be on the list.:)

My only hope is that some day.... I can know everything...about trains. But there will always be someone out there who knows more.

Have a good day and have fun,

Certainly shows that a lot of people who vote in polls have no idea about British locos.

Paul

My my, someone certainly is in "sarcastic" mode here. There are more steam locomotives out there than just British locomotives and these out there are more numerous than the British locomotives. Plus not everyone might like to see British locos either and probably would like to see some others from a different locality for a change. I guess the decision to create the next locomotive by Rob has more of a financial (sellability) reason than anything else. Which is OK by me if that is the case.

Also, if the poll would have been worded more clearly, we would have had a better understanding of it.

Cheers

Wow, looks amazing. Though it looks like that she isn't going to be completed, or is this the Trainz DLC duchess?
