Well these were taken back when CNW ran to SSAM (If that ever happened ). Today we spotted a CNW local approaching SSAM where it would shunt due to the size of the train and then stable. Our first shot see's the train passing the Paper Mill sidings:
CNW-LCL-1.jpg

Over the river and passing the station (or depot :p):

Taken during the shunt:

And finally we see the locos stabled at the re-fueling depot:

Hopefully we'll catch some Ore action tomorrow

For now,
Tom :)

Well I couldn't resist chasing a Ore train, so I took a couple of shots whilst one was struggling through the countryside:

Not much to see today, took a shot of the loco depot at Hawk Junction. Hopefully we'll see some big trains soon, it's getting a bit quiet :p

Today we are in Menominee MI

As a child, I'd visit Menominee once in a while (both my parents grew up there), but my memories of this place are foggy with age (I visited there around 4-8 years of age, I'm 57 now). I remember the drive up US 41, watching the tracks for a passing train (none ever happened by, unfortunately :( ).

I'm on google maps trying to obtain the exact locations of my grandparent's house (on my father's side). As a child, I never knew the name of the street, after all, other people were doing the driving, and as a 4-year old kid, you don't pay attention to that stuff.

I could swear the house was on 10th avenue there, as I remember crossing a bridge, and just across the house was a street, down from there were tracks and a small train yard (that never had cars on the rails).

There was a diamond crossing just west of that location. I always made it a point to have my dad take me out there to say "Hi" to the huge gates they had there. They'd always be locked so that trains on the "wrong" track would have to stop, swing the gates over to the other side, blocking on-coming trains, go through, then put the gates back into their original location. Unfortuantely, I never got to see THAT happen. Would have been around 10th Avenue and 18th Street.

Looking at the map today, there's still a diamond crossing somewhere up in that area, but it's in the Marinette area, between Madison Ave and Slate Street.

Did they take out the diamond crossing that I'm remembering? I haven't been up that way in eons, but now you've perked my ears up with childhood memories. :)

Best little burgers ever eaten. Every time we went up there, it was mandatory to go there for dinner at least one time.

Sort of like fish returning to spawn. :D

Damn it! Now I have that ......... craving for one.

Way down here near the "other" end of US 41. I'm in the Fort Lauderdale area. BTW, about 2 years back, made it up to visit my sister and her hubby near Milwaukee and made a short drive to visit relatives in Appleton. They just happen to live about 3 blocks from a set of tracks that are just busy as all get-out. Trains come by their house nearly on the hour. Sleeping - about 3 trains later, you just filter it out. :p

BTW, I'm originally from Neenah, just 30 miles south of Green Bay. Got my interest in trains from all those tracks all over the place due to all those Kimberly Clark papermills in the area.

You'd be surprised how much that area has changed since CaNoodle took over... :(

Oh, yes, noted that the trains no longer run through Neenah anymore although the switching yard is still there (a few of them, actually). The tracks have been pretty much torn up in places.

The train station there is now used as a lawyer's office.

Oh, the inequity of it all.

Yeah.....It does take a toll on RR fans.....But as they say...Out with the old and in with the new
