Using the following items causes a "fatal error" in my trainz when loading the map with these items:

D_sclad_2 - 428217:45 - region Russia
D_saray_2 - 428217:44 - region Russia

Same happened to me last week after downloading
d put budka 2 428217:70
Was unable to get into my 5 months worth of Surveyor route work:'( .
Did a complete Vista system restore - no good. Uninstalled and reinstalled TRS2004 (build 2370) which also failed to sort it:( .
The simple solution I eventually found was to delete the offending kuid in Content Manager - no probs since :)

Yes , i have had that also .
Very anoying because you can place the item and everything seems normal , but when you reload the map , you get the fatal error .
A problem that already exsists in TRS2004.
When you know what the offending item is , its easy to correct or delete it .

I ran a thread on these assets last week. All assets starting with D_xxx crashed my PC right out to the Desktop.
That was on a bare board, just a single asset at a time. So there is something drastically wrong with the content somewhere.

Can someone write to the author of these assets and tell them to get their act together..er, I mean to politely ask them to check their assets before uploading? I'm thinking if these items crash our TRS-04 routes then they must also do the same to the author's routes, so they should be check-able at source.

No mail

There's no mail address in his CP. Can I get it elsewhere? Then I will write - politely.

Actually some of the sheds produced are very nice so it's a shame they crash our PC's out.

Sorry to disagree but I don't see anything wrong with these items. They load just fine into TRS06 and above. There are no scripts and the mesh appear to be fine. They are very simple objects. The only thing I see is that they all use very large textures which may be causing TRS04 problems. Other than that they are NOT killers just not suitable for TRS2004 maybe. Perhaps the correct title of this thread should have been "Trouble with new assets" rather than the almost comical "Warning: Killing Items." This user put a lot of work into these assets and they look very good in game and has chosen to share them with the community. He or She deserves better treatment from us.

In checking further, several of these items are Trainz build 2.5 so that is the source of some of the problems. Some are 1.3 and most are 2.4. There really is not reason for any of them to be more than 1.3 since the configs are very simple. Try lower the build number and see what happens in TRS04.

Crash

These items do cause a serious crash in 04. The files are supposed to be for 04 so folk have a genuine grump here. I almost lost a route that was nearly completed and being prepared to be sent to Auran when I placed one of these assets on it. It seemed fine, nothing happened. It was when I went back to the route I found the problem. When it was almost loaded Trainz crashed out to the Desktop so I was unable to get into the route to remove the asset.
I did post on the Surveyors section hoping somebody might come up with a suggestion, as you have, but nobody did. So the only alternative was to remove the assets from Dispatcher.
Some are quite nice sheds and I am sure most people are aware of the time it takes to create an object. But it also takes several months to create a route and to suddenly find you cannot access it is, well, a bit of a pain to say the least.
I am wondering if the assets were tested in 04 by the creator, but then again there appears to be no fault, it runs and saves fine, it's not until the route is opened again that disaster strikes.
So they do kill a route, albeit unintentionally on the creators part, I am sure.

Thanks for your suggestion. I looked in the config but didn't notice it.

Hi , i checked further .
Its not the texture size ; i made the textures smaller and the same fatal error ocured.
Its not the build number ; the 2.4 assets have the same problem .
It must have to do something with russion caracters in the asset file name .
So they have to be reexported from gmax, but as all those assets are just a box with a plane on top , they are easy to rebuild ( but thats of course only for proper use , not to share ) .

Well, even the assets labelled as build 2. crashed my TRS2004, so as far as I'm concerned 'killing assets' is quite accurate. And it means the build number isn't the main problem.

In any case, it's not a good idea to change the build number if you intend to upload a layout using those assets. Everyone downloading the layout will end up using the original assets and have the same problem. In other words, it's just spreading the misery. It's more public-spirited I think to try to contact the author and inform them of the problem. I don't suggest that's mistreating the author.

config

Here is the config, any suggestions?
As you can see I tried changing the build number to 1.3 but it made no difference, still got crashed out.

kuid <kuid:428217:37>
region "Russia"
type "Buildings"
light 1
category-class "BH"
category-region-0 "RU"
category-era-0 2000
trainz-build 1.3
asset-filename "d_saray_1"
name "d_saray_1"
username "d_saray_1"
icon-texture "screen.jpg"
author "denlog aka trainz666"
kuid-table {
}
kind "scenery"

As markbin says, this is something more serious and can only be sorted out by the creator. But he does not have any contact number in the CP.
Must admit, I have not seen an icon-texture noted as a screen jpg before.... shouldn't that be a tga file?

As those assets are on the DLS and are marked as suited for 2004 , its usefull to get them corrected.
You can try to contact the creator on the russian forum ; the moderator there understand english .
But the creator has to know what to correct ; i think it has to do with the underscores.

the underscores or the spaces used in the asset file name

I'll try

Okay, I'll give it a whizz.
I am wondering if the username has anything to do with it - 666....!!!!

It looks to me that the creator used a old config from a 1.3 asset with these assets and just edited the file. The "name" tag and the screen.jpg usage were both obsoleted in TRS2004. That is a mistake as was uploading them with the wrong build number. What I was pointing out was that I see nothing to suggest that there is anything evil going on here. In fact, as I stated before they all load quite nicely into TRS06, TC3 and TS2009. I can add them to a map and save and re-open with no problems.

What bothered me was the suggestion that there was something foul afoot. If we assume this creator is a young person just imagine how they would feel upon seeing this thread. Yes, it is a dumb idea to have a user name with 666 in it because of the religious meaning that number has to many people but young people today are like that and enjoy the vicarious thrill of shocking people. But what you have here is a young creator that made some mistakes most likely through inexperience and the tone of this thread was rather nasty. If the items don't work in TRS04 then say so and seek to help the creator fix them for you or walk away. Going all Harry Potter with "killing items" is only going to drive the creator away and you'll still have assets that you can't use. Angela is going about this the right way. Try to make contact politely and offer to help.

Hello William,
My 666 comment was supposed to be light-hearted. And I am sure nobody thinks there is anything evil or premediated in any of this. Maybe some unfortunate expressions have been used and maybe becayuse, like me, I very nearly lost a considerable amount of work. But even then, in my original thread in Surveyors, I did not infer any foul intentions on the creators part.
I have made contact now so I await and see what happens. The person's English is very sketchy, but not half as sketchy as my Russian is! That's non'existant...
So if we can all calm down, work is in progress at resolving any issues that I am quite certsin were caused accidentally and NOT malisciously.
They are very nice assets and would grace any route of mine - if only I could get them to work. So with that in mind I am holding back this latest route from uploading in the hope that this lovely content can be brought fully into use.

Blessing on all concerned,

Angela

Hi William!

I've tried the same thing in my TS2009 (build 38.599), and the four item's with build 2,5 didn't show until i changed the build to 2.4.

As mentioned before, i would suspect it has to do with the underscores, and possibly the "screenshot.jpg" tag.

Kind regards, Al.
