Crashed out

Maybe somebody can help me...???
I was just putting the finishing touches to Tabletop 3 when Wallop, out I went, right out to the Desktop.
Message was
Class : Hardware
Access Violation in Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\bin\trainz.exe
Recoverable - Yes (It isn;t, I have tried everything I can think of!)

Now every time I try to open the route it gets about 3/4 loaded and slams me out to the Desktop again.
Have run TO, nothing wrong in there.

So any ideas???

Anybody?

Please....

Hi Angela,

It's been awhile for me with TRS2004 (I've been using 06 and now 09 so my cobwebs are a bit thick here... ;)

Try deleting the chump files. C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\Cache

If not, look for Chump files in any of the other directories and delete them. Reboot, then start up again and see what happens.

Good luck,

John

Cheers John,
I'll give that a whizz - thanks for replying too.

Update

I think I have found the cause.
I did the chumps but that didn't work. Then I remembered I had downloaded some new assets today and used them.
So I started a new route and put some track on it and a building I have had for a while. Got in and out no problems.
Put one of the new buildings and, saved, went out and loaded and it crashed me out.
A new route next and put another of the new assets and nothing else on it and the same thing happened.
The asset is called d sclad 3 - I forgot to get the next name but it may be that all of these assets starting with the letter d are faultry.
Has anybody else experienced this?

Angela

I've had the same thing just lately, it was the "Warners" route, I downloaded it ok, but if I tried to load it, my machine just froze up solid & I had to do a reboot from the button on the tower case.

trainz crash

I have the same trouble when I use the passenger enabled stations including the invisble ones. Iam using trainz 2006

Faulty content has crashed my 2004 before, I don't know if it's cumulative or not, but the program has a limit!

Only these assets

Faulty content has crashed my 2004 before, I don't know if it's cumulative or not, but the program has a limit!

Hello,
So far it only seems to be these assets. I have tried others and they allow me to get in and out of routes, no problems.
As soon as I add one of these asets - BLAM - out, no messing about.

I don't like suggesting assets cause problems, I rarely get them, but all these assets came down today along with others, but the other ones don't crash me.

I think it's a fact that has been bourne out time and time again. I've experienced it myself in a very similar fashion to what you describe, but I don't know if there is a certain combination of faults that causes it, or if a single piece of content can really have so many faults that the program can't handle it.

Hence the improved error checking ushered in by 2006 and continued now throught to 2009.

There's no shame in a creator making faulty content as early documentation was not the best!

I've had several similar experiences but all with 2006. There have been times I've been able to identify a faulty asset but other times when a route that had run successfully for sometime suddenly crashed. As Angela found, although the errors say recovery is possible I have yet to see it. What I've also found is that some assets can create errors through their scripts but don't indicate any errors when viewed in the content manager.

You're welcome, Angela.

The problem with the asset maybe with the texture files. If one of the textures is corrupt, it can crash the video. I've had this happen too with '04 and sometimes with '06. TS09 has been very stable for me so far.

You might also want to check the config files to make sure they're kosher. I've found a lot of weird things in there that get reported by later versions of Trainz, but TRS2004 ignored these problems. They range from typographical errors to incorrect config file formatting so that there are tags inside of the { } that shouldn't be there.

John

In trs2006 a TEXTURE file has caused a crash and even in cmp you cannot delete the file without a crash. I wish Auran error traps were more informative.

TO

As you all may have guessed by my mention of TrainzObjects, I run 04.
Nothing came up in that, not even when I ran the map through it.
But it does seem to be specific objects and until I can be sure it means I dare not go into a route like Bristol Temple Meads with umpteen boards and an awful lot of work done on it if, after closing and opening I find the route corrupted.
The route in question is a 2-board Tabletop, my third. But remember I tested assets on a single board and got in and out of that 'route' fine until one or more of these specific assets were placed on the ground - then BLAM - OUT!

I need now to work out how I can delete these objects and get the near-completed route back again. As the route only loads to the point where they were placed, that is almost fully loaded, and then crashes, I am unable to get at them.
I have never used TO to delete content but I believe it is possible, so any advice on how to do it, the process in other words, would be most helpful.

Bless you all for replying,

Angela

Angela,

Just checking, are you regularly backing up C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\World\Custom? We get so many sad tales on this forum of people who have lost years of work because they have failed to make backups. Humble apologies if you're already doing this, obviously.

I know I am preaching to the choir here but I save my routes everytime before I add new assets. This has really helped when I added some new stuff and had performance issues even total crashes. I then go back and remove what I added and all is well. Needless to say I do not download those assets again.

Cheers

The route was saved. I saved very regularly, every couple of minutes.
This happened after I closed the route and went back to open it again. There's no way I can get in to remove these assets.

Have just tested quite a lot by starting a single board route and placing just one asset on it, one of this group I means. Closing and reponeing means a crash out. So there is plainly something the matter with this set of assets.
Here are the names and kuids and a sample of a config so that you peeps can have a peep! All this kuid 428217 so I will only put in the last part.

Morning Angela,

Sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties with recently downloaded content.
It's a long time since I used TRS2004 and I am probably talking out of some unmentionable part of my anatomy here, but if you know the kuid numbers of the content, can you not go into the world/dispatcher/downloads folder and delete the kuids in there? If the route then loads you can delete missing assets. Just a thought.

Best regards Bruce

Do you know, I have been fiddling about since 0800 this morning with various things and never thought of that - and it's so obvious!

I'll try, but the first thing now is to try and get the route to show in Surveyor, which is not doing!

Bless you,

Angela

It's Back!!

Gee, thanks Bruce,
It's back, that worked like a charm. So those that said Trainz can 'only take so much' are wrong - it WAS those assets. I have been in and out like a yoyo without any problems since removing the assets from the Dispatcher folder.

I was wondering about the line Icon-texture = screen.jpg in the config, which seems a bit odd to me, I don't think I have even noticed that before an any other asset's config.

Bless you Bruce, I am forever a fan of yours! And why the Dickens I never thought of it is a bit of a mystery - nor anybody else for that matter... I was rather concentrating on using TO but that wasn't at all successful.
