UK Screenshots for Pre BR Blue. High resolution warning.

Sadly John the law isn't the problem, it's Imgur's response to it and failure to adhere to the legislation. While irritating other websites have done it successfully but it does mean that the majority of the forum now is plain boxes with error messages displayed. Even so, I'm sure all the recent screenshots are excellent!

freeimage.host is the image hosting site I'm using here now. I don't really have the energy to go back over all my previous images I have on imgur and transfer them to freeimage.host.

SR Project: East Coastway Line, Circa 1950s

Ex- LSWR Urie S15 Class with a heavy mineral stopping train traveling through Berwick. Loco is not a Brighton Resident and appears to be from Feltham - more than likely the train is a coal working from South London for drop offs at Eastbourne, Bexhill Central and Hastings Gasworks before making a return trip back up north - likely along the Wealden Line upon returning to Lewes and onwards to Three Bridges.

You may be surprised to discover that the rest of the world does not revolve around the UK and its stupid laws. Imgur have clearly decided that (a) only a small part of their business is in the UK and (b) why would they want to incur the disproportionate costs and risks of the UK approach to age verification (a cyber security disaster waiting to happen) or the threat of massive fines and therefore have concluded, (c) to stop their images appearing in the UK and minimise the costs and risks to their business.

The UK government were warned about the risk of unintended consequences if they went ahead with a very naïve version of age verification. The previous government backed away from that cliff edge but not this one, they think of themselves as 'technocrats' but they know nothing about technology!

Not at all Paul, I'm very aware that our small island is not a major concern to everyone out there but like it or not, we have laws that we expect companies to adhere to, whether we (the public) like them or not. That isn't the issue, new laws come into effect all the time and no one likes all of them - the issue is Imgur failed to comply with this new law and therefore, as you summised, decided to withdraw from the UK for the time being. I'd probably have reached the same conclusion but that doesn't mean that they can opt out. Happily, I now use a VPN as that seems to work with the benefit of additional security so if anyone else is struggling I'd encourage others to make use of a VPN too.

My images are hosted on jatws.org which is based in Canada and I think they are visible to UK viewers. This UK law seems very uneven to me. I've seen nothing to indicate that I should check a person's IP address and if it is a UK one ask them to prove their age before displaying any images. Are you saying it should it apply to JATWS.org?

Thanks John

If you want to be silly about it, sure.

Sadly I didn't come up with the law nor do I agree it's a particularly helpful one however it is a law and therefore it requires to be followed. I can't say whether it was the right move or not but Imgur had a choice to comply with the law or not and they chose the latter - completely up to them and we have to respect their choice.

I rather feel this has all been blown out of proportion - my original reply was stating that the law itself wasn't the problem, but Imgur's response was. The law doesn't stop Imgur hosted images from being seen in the UK, but they clearly don't want to go to the time, effort and cost of complying with said law and that has consequences for us here. Let's leave the morals of whether it was the right or wrong thing to do to others as I have no interest in discussing that with relation to Trainz.
