The End Of The Ole Valley Joint Railway 1967
Nice shot Gamerouche I'm going have to ask if can use it to create a haevily weathered clayton and many pics I have seen of them, they are in a terriable state.
The Ole Valley route ran for Carlisle to Templebay on the East Coast the Line was opened in 1888 under the name of the Carlisle and Olemouth Railway Company. However the line did run into Carlisle in joined the NER main line from Carlisle to Newcastle. It became a joint railway in 1900 when the Midland and the North Eastern Railway Bought the orginal company out. The Line would be market for closuer in 1966 and this is refrence of the last week of the line.
The First Image is of an EM1 at Roamington. On the LNERs Experimental electric line on the NBR Main Line from Newcastle to Riccarton Junction. Only the two fast line where electrified.
Next Photo shows the Roamington Shed the round house has been closed at this point. Howevr there are still steam locos in the form of two Standard 4s Numbers 76002 and 75041 There is also a Sulzer Type 2.
The DMU are the only things running passenger services from Roamington to Olemouth. There wher only two station left open east of Roamington these being Wolverton and Olemouth. Here we see a Class 101 waiting to depart for Olemouth.
At Wolverton the train stopped and another DMU appeared from the east in the form of a Class 105.
At Olemouth we see the Class 101 with a Class 124 which was on the Train to Carlisle this train only stopped at Harton and Tam Junction which was where the Line joined the NER Railway.
A Brush Type 3 Leaves Olemouth with a parcel train that would join onto the Ex-NBR mainline to Newcastle.
In the Harbour siding we see two Class 17 Claytons waiting to take a fish van train south.
From 1965 a class 02 replaces the Y7 on shunting opperations in Olemouth Harbour.
In BR day alot more Ex-LMS locos appeared on the line mostly bring in trains from carlisle and here we see a 8F waiting to take a fright back to carlisle.
