TS10+ KUID DATABASE APP... YOUR OPINION!

As all of us hate missing dependencies, I felt it was necessary that we should take it upon

ourselves to make a KUID database application for your PC. Now, this is just an idea, not

a certainty
. Along with this app, we need a team behind it to develop, update, and

provide support for users.
If produced, this app will be updated monthly. It will contain

features such as a search bar (KUID #, author, etc). Also it will have links to the website or

DLS page for download. We feel like this would greatly improve the lives of Trainzers

everywhere! VOTE (On our homepage) or comment below because we would love to hear

your opinion on this subject!

You remind me of the people that would always get picked last in my computer science classes, for group projects. All the ideas, and no way to practically implement it.

It's a very good idea in principle, I will give you that, but you can't start calling the shots when you have no one to program it for you yet. Just my two cents.

I wasn't implying that. I even said that a team would be needed to develop this program. It is very possible, just not at this very moment obviously.

All I would want is a way to tell if all of a route or sessions dependencies are on the DLS.

Other then payware, if it ain't on the DLS I don't care were it is cause I'm not downloading it.

I like the idea, but tempt to agree with NickyVeeeee on this.
I fear that (if it ends up seeing the light of day) this tool, like other not financialy supported tools, will work nice for a few weeks or maybe even months and then stops to stay relyable and as a result turns into a lot of time wasted.

Other then payware, if it ain't on the DLS I don't care were it is cause I'm not downloading it.
I agree. Totally.
Thats why I made this suggestion 9 months ago:

If you have show Kuids on in surveyor, red means modified/Downloaded from a 3rd party source, yellow means built-in and white means off the DLS

OK in principle but have you any idea of the amount of work involved in what you are proposing?
I doubt many would have the attention span to complete the task.

First you have to identify every single missing dependency, which means someone has to download everything from the DLS that has a dependency to check if it's there, that's all routes, sessions, rolling stock, locos and anything else that could have a dependency plus you would probably need to add every add-on pack all DLC and all versions of Trainz for the builtins possibly used as dependencies that are not on the DLS.
You can't build a database without collecting the information first or you just add to the frustration when people use your app and still can't find a kuid.
If you are going to include items on the DLS then you will need to get the kuid for every single item it contains. 2010 upwards routes will use many older items.
After establishing what is missing you are then going to have to locate all the missing items by using Google or similar, ftp search engines, probably the Wayback Machine for closed sites and check that the items are actually there and the links work and that you are not directing people to some malware infested site or dodgy warez site. Anything in zip or rar format and not available as a cdp would ideally need to be tested for malware.

Then you have to find someone with the necessary skill and time to use the information collected and design a working application and then add the data, it would also probably need to work in XP upwards, be 32 bit and ideally be cross platform so you don't exclude OSX users.

Estimated guess in the time scale involved? 12 months maybe to collect all the information, less maybe if you can get enough volunteers prepared to spend all their spare time working on the project and not using Trainz.
