TS 2009 BETA

WEN - where do you get the Open GL drivers?
AHSAN - I used Driver Detective to upadate the drivers on my high spec PC a couple of weeks ago and only later saw a warning on a computer forum that DD could turn my PC into an "expensive doorstop".It is now a very expensive doorstop.I have installed TRS2004 on my old PC and it works perfecto.

I would recommend that you uninstall DD and go through every manufacturer's website to download the latest drivers for all of your hardware.

Also, the manufacturer's website is where you would find the drivers for your video card.

I went to the Nvidia website and downloaded the Drivers and after restarting my PC I found no change.TRS2004 works equally well in either DirectX9 or OpenGL though in OpenGL I get the red "caching" bar on the screen.
The main problem though is that when I attempt to re download the Beta, Free Download Manager shows about 90 Kb/s and estimated download time 8 hours.Clearly I can't have my PC tied up for 8 hours so I had to abort.

The RAM needs to contain a bit more than just trainz, while you're running it.
A typical beta2 layout with session will run in less than 500 MB and XP rarely uses more than a few hundred. Thus in theory 1 GB should be enough, but...

how much other stuff is installed and running? Background services, Windows indexing service even the antivirus take space and CPU time. Make sure, you do not services you don't need. Remove (uninstall) unused applications and their background services.

How filled are the disk drives and how much space is actually free on (each of) the drives where the temp folder, the download folder and the install folder resides? Each location must have enough space.

Page file size set to max? What? Do not allow more than 3-4 times the physical RAM size; 4096 MB would be max on 32-bit XP. Use a custom selected fixed size on a drive you have just defragmented.

Hi lewisner,

I don't know your broad-band connection speed, but my Free D M; also showed 8 hours when it started the download. It took less than 4 hours in reality.

Alternatively, couldn't your download overnight, normally your area server will be quiet then, and it should be on your machine when you wake-up.

Cheers
Pete.

I guess I could download overnight but then the Beta is nearly finished and TRS2009 is only a few days away so it seems pointless. Thanks for the info re download times anyway!
Nismit, my computer says the maximum Page File Size is 1534 Mb so I have set that as minimum and maximum. The (only) HDD is 80 GB (don't laugh, its a 5 year old PC :o ) and 17 Gb is free.As for the other applications I dunno...I use most of them, and I have to admit the problems with my high end PC have drained the life out of me.Its problems are Driver related so its not as if it is "fried" but the problems are still beyond my solving.I could take it to a shop but cash is in short supply right now and I have been ripped off by a PC shop before.

Don't worry, I build basic computers with 80GB in all the time.:D

As four your paging file, there should be, at the bottom of the window where you change the paging file, some recommended values. Set the files size to these.
