TRS2010 Speedtrees Fix

I was searching for something else to do with TS2010, but what are Speedtrees? It's obvious about trees, but what type of trees are they?
G'Day Red_Rattler, They are trees in TS10 that are animated and flail about frantically as if in a hurricane, that is untill Otto's fix sorted the little suckers out.:hehe:
Gosh I remember going to school in the old Red Rattlers, we lived in the city (Sydney) and used to travel from Circular Quay to Central and back every day, those were the days.:D:wave:
Regards
Barrie

Have now added BATCH files for turning the Speedtrees animation OFF or ON.

Re-download it.

Otto, where do I put these files and how do you invoke the batch file? Setting the wind speed to zero as suggested by Dean05 made no difference to my frame rates.

EDIT: Sorry about this post asking a question that's already been answered and making a comment that's already been made. My mouse has a habit of jumping all over the place and I missed the answer to this question when scrolling through the posts above. (I've now replaced the mouse.)

So how do I do it? It just comes up with a bunch of folders for me. :(

1. Unzip files
2. Go thru the file Hierarchy and find "bin"
3. Go to your Trainz 2010 directory hierarchy and find "bin"
4. Copy the unzipped bin to the TS2010 file. Overwrite.
5. Go to the TS2010 bin and go down the hierarcy:bin/plugins/SpeedTreeShaders/
6. Double click on "#-Speedtrees-off.bat

At least 20 more FPS

Harold

I have given 'the fix' a try but using Pofig's trees in TS2010 SP3 the trees disappear entirely after running the batch file.

Operator Error or Known Issue?

Andy

I suspect this is to turn the wind off (off topic, but a NSW V-Set car had to be scrapped due to damage after a tree fell on it, due to very, very strong winds). Have to check that out.

Edit: I can't find any file called -Speedtrees-off.bat

It should be in TS2010\bin\plugins\SpeedTreeShaders with it's counterpart -Speedtrees-on.bat. They should be placed automatically on installing. Try re-installing Ottodad's patch.

You should have the following extra files in the folder:

#-SPEEDTREES-OFF.BAT
#-SPEEDTREES-ON.BAT
LeafCard.fx.OFF
SpeedTree.fx.OFF
Wind.fx.OFF
LeafCard.fx.ORIGINAL
SpeedTree.fx.ORIGINAL
Wind.fx.ORIGINAL

If these are missing it suggests that you have not got the patch installed at all. Try re-downloading and installing again.

Just now downloaded and extracted to desktop, ran a list.bat and got this;

Directory of C:\Documents and Settings\Jim Ward\Desktop\Auran\TS2010\bin\plugins\SpeedTreeShaders

07/10/2011 11:48 AM <DIR> .
07/10/2011 11:48 AM <DIR> ..
07/01/2010 01:35 PM 218 #-SPEEDTREES-OFF.BAT
07/01/2010 01:34 PM 233 #-SPEEDTREES-ON.BAT
06/30/2010 09:34 PM 12,987 LeafCard.fx
06/30/2010 09:34 PM 12,987 LeafCard.fx.OFF
01/18/2010 03:18 PM 12,987 LeafCard.fx.ORIGINAL
06/30/2010 09:17 PM 6,648 SpeedTree.fx
06/30/2010 09:17 PM 6,648 SpeedTree.fx.OFF
01/18/2010 03:18 PM 6,648 SpeedTree.fx.ORIGINAL
06/30/2010 10:38 PM 8,883 Wind.fx
06/30/2010 10:38 PM 8,883 Wind.fx.OFF
01/18/2010 03:18 PM 10,342 Wind.fx.ORIGINAL
13 File(s) 87,477 bytes

Possibly the # sign at the beginning of the BAT files is giving Win7 the heebiejeebies?

See file names in Teddytoot's post

Missing patch???

Game TS2010, build 44088. (like to know how they work those numbers out)

All the files I can see in the bin\plugins folder are:
folders: Microsoft.VC80.CRT (& ending in .VC80.DebugCRT & .VC80.MFC) & SpeedTreesShaders

In the SpeedTreesShaders, files are & all with the extension .fx Billboard, Branch, Clouds, CompileCommands, Frond, Grass, LeafCard, LeafMesh, Lighting, Overlays, Shadows, Sky, SpeedTree, Terrain, Textures, Utility & Wind

Edit: I've just noticed that I messed up one of the quotes in a previous post in this thread.
Edit 2: People may consider this an old thread, that I restarted the thread, but is still ON the subject - especially after spending XYZ time attempt to find it, and also what's this doing in the General Trainz thread, when it should be in the TS2010 section?

Either a UAC problem or a path problem. WinZip has the option to store the folder path in the zipfile, that was done here;

\Auran\TS2010\bin\plugins\SpeedTreeShaders

So if you extract the zip to your

\Auran\TS2010\bin\plugins\SpeedTreeShaders

folder, you'll end up with

\Auran\TS2010\bin\plugins\SpeedTreeShaders\Auran\TS2010\bin\plugins\SpeedTreeShaders

Which won't work. Likewise, you have C:\X86\Program Files\Auran\TS12 and you extract to the TS12 folder, you end up with

C:\X86\Program Files\Auran\TS12\Auran\TS2010\bin\plugins\SpeedTreeShaders

Which also won't work.

Simplest way to do this, extract the zip directly to your desktop, you end up with a folder named Auran. Open that, browse all the way down to where the files are, select all (CTRL A) and copy (CTRL C). Now switch to windows explorer, browse to \Wherever\You\Got\It\Auran\TS12orTS2010. go down further until you hit \bin\plugins\SpeedTreeShaders and paste (CTRL V) all the files into that.

I have to be quick, but none of the folders and/or files had a winzip to extract the files/folders. UAC??
Might back up game later and re-install - but knowing my luck the backup will fail!

Those are the normal Auran Speedtree files that you would expect to see. The extra ones are added by Ottodad's patch. The .bat files overwrite the Auran files with the OFF or ORIGINAL files as required.
