TRS19 update performed 18.12.20 – from 105096 via 110322 to 110491. Everything
appeared to be OK.
I then went into TRS 19 to work on one of my routes as per following system:-
- Start Trainz - 110491
- Select Driver/Surveyor
- Select Route
- View Sessions
- Select “Default”
- Select “Edit Session”
- Carry out intended work
- Select System Menu
- Select “Save” (“overwrite existing route and overwrite existing session?”)
- Tick Box (revolving blue circle for approx. 10-15 secs)
- Select System Menu
- Select Exit Surveyor (sub menu appears - “Do you wish to save changes before closing Surveyor?” Select “save” – (“overwrite existing route and existing session?”) – tick box --to save).
At which point, the screen went to default and the blue circle started to revolve and continued revolving for something between 5 and 10 minutes! Then the screen went into a dimmed-out version of the last scene on my route and a black/white print box appeared with the message,
“ Surveyor has failed to save the route/session changes. Please ensure there is adequate disk space and try again. OK?” It was around 11.30 p.m. so closed down and went to bed
I have today (21.12.20) gone through the same procedures with the same route. Identical procedure and result up to and including Item 12, EXCEPT blue circle revolved for about 30 secs, then went to the expected item 2 screen at which point I exited the game as per my normal procedure. What! How? Why?????????
My next test was to follow the same procedures with another WIP route. The result was a repeat of my first experience and the black box with the
“Surveyor has failed to save……………..” message.
I should add that in all tests so far, the changes that I’ve made to the routes in Surveyor have in fact been saved on the route/session file and are visible when next logging in. It seems that it is just the procedure for “exiting from surveyor” that throws up the nonsense messages.
However, there are other issues. In September 2019, to rationalise disc space, I moved the bulk of the TRS 19 files from C: H Drive to my SSD D: Drive and finished up with the following arrangement:
C:\Users\User\
AppData\Local\N3VGames\trs19\userdata-redirect.map
D:\TRS19_Userdata Folder 72.4 GB
D:\TRS19_Program Files 15.0 GB
This arrangement has worked well for over 12 months.
I now find that the underlined portion of the
directory and map file shown above for C: Drive has been completely erased and that the TRS19 Userdata folder has increased its size from 72.4 to 156 GB!
OK, I must have added a few bytes in the last 12 months but I’ve not doubled it, so am guessing that somethings being duplicated. Even then, I still have 196GB free disc space on D:\ so why the message about “
ensuring I have sufficient disc space and try again?”
I’m not naïve enough to discount the possibility, even the likelihood, that my ineptitude has had a hand in this screw-up but aren’t upgrades supposed to straightforward and relatively simple to apply. Does anybody have any suggestions - preferably words of one syllable?
Any help will be appreciated.
