TRS 22PE C&O Hinton Division missing Sessions, other paid DLC missing

Hi, this is following on to another issue I had where Trainz support had me delete files from my installation to fix a problem downloading routes and other content.

So once it became clear that it wasn't an environmental issue, that Trainz knew about the problem and was offering a solution, I followed the solution:

1) Double click on your Trainz icon
2) Click on Trainz Settings
3) Go to the 'Install' tab
4) Make a note of the location of your LocalData folder in this window
5) Close all Trainz windows
6) Open File Explorer (or My Computer, or equivalent)
7) Go to the location of your LocalData folder
8) In your LocalData folder, delete the file named 'assets.tdx'
9) Now open the folder named 'cache'
10) Delete the files named 'assets.bku' and 'backup.tdx'
11) Open the folder named 'internet', within the 'cache' folder
12) Select all of the files in the 'internet' folder, and then delete these files
13) Go back to the 'cache' folder, then in this folder open the folder named 'temp'
14) Within the 'temp' folder, delete all files and folders
15) Close explorer
16) Now try starting Trainz again, and then try installing the DLC packs again.

So now that I've done that, I believe something is askew/off-kilter/catty-wampus with my Trainz installation.

For example, in the C&O Hinton Division route, which I was getting errors from, now there are no Sessions.

And I paid on Steam for the Andrushivka - Vinnitsa UZ Route, but it's nowhere to be round in my Trainz 2022PE interface.

Thanks for any ideas! I did a database repair and that had no effect.

And yes I have done complete network troubleshooting, checked my anti-virus logs, I'm using a wired connection, all Windows updates installed, I assume Trainz is updated because Steam updates it automatically.

Thanks again.

oh I still can't edit drat!

I pasted the wrong thread in there at the top. Here's the correct thread:

Thanks again.

Go into the Content Store.
Download anything and everything that you can download. Due to the size of the program, route packages are not included in the download and need to be downloaded separately via the Content Store. It would be nice if N3V noted that in the product description on the products page. (They didn't the last time I checked...)

Only download a few things at a time, otherwise, the download will lock up.

Sorry I'm kind of a literal reader at times.
Download anything and everything that you can download.
I thought you were saying to download all 700K-ish assets LOL.

So I went into the Content Manager, I guess I'm still confused why I can't download things through the main interface, there used to be buttons to download things but they have disappeared for the relevant sessions.

T:ANE shows downloads available when you go to the routes page, Starting in TRS19 you have to hit the Content Store Button. And as Hiawathamr just taught me, if you want to search you have to expand the window until the search shows up at the top.

That's great advice! Thanks.

but like my screenshots above, I can see the search box, in both cases I have search terms entered.

And in the main Driver interface (if that's what this next screenshot is called?), you can see for a different route I have a download button.

So I don't understand why you're saying i have to go to the "Content Store", you mean to click the Manage Content button in the initial screen? That brings up the Content Manager?

Is the the "Content Store" this interface that I called Driver above?

Thank you!

LOL.

Content Manager will display content downloaded from the Content Store, but you can't do anything with it other than enable or disable the content. You need to download the packages via the Content Store. Content Manager can manage other content such as assets from the DLS and third-party websites.

No, "Content Store" is the button at the bottom of the launcher when you first start Trainz. If you click that button, it will bring up a small window that will haveve "Store", "Purchased" and "Updates" in the upper left corner. By default, you will be looking at the store. Each item will have a price, or "Install" or "Uninstall" depending upon status. I just looked at mine under "Purchased", and at the bottom it is showing five simc:scxxx files to install, simc:sc248 - simc:sc249. I don't know what that is, but maybe someone can chime in and tell me?

I do see that once I have increased the window to show the search it now stays that way, so bonus!

I am so blind at times, today I finally realize there's a Manage Content AND Content Store buttons LOL.

I will tried to download that asset in the Content Store, much appreciate the tip but it's not there:

Here's what I sent back to Trainz based on their support's response:

Sorry this is gonna be long I put the images in:

Hi, I can't type in the build # field, it's 126295

it just shows "Uninstall"

Thanks, I double click on the route, then click "List Featured Assets"

I see this, I can't download the missing asset, it's greyed out.

When I "Start Trainz" in the main window I see a broken link on the C&O route:

The sessions are also missing assets, at least they show broken links:

This is weird I can't open Surveyor or Surveyor 2.0 on the route/session, and there's a press esc to skip.
Question: What am I skipping here?

Also when playing this route I am seeing many missing assets:

Thanks for any further suggestions!

It seems that everything possible has already been done. Check your disks. Download Crystal Disk Info Standard Edition ZIP from here: https://crystalmark.info/en/download/
Unzip the archive and run DiskInfo64.exe. Take screenshots of all your disks tabs like this:

This is an understandable reaction, but it's not the problem, and of course that was about the first thing I checked. FYI:

And I imagine for people who are not intimately familiar with software development, and perhaps also these same people have a perhaps 20+ year affinity for Trainz, it's difficult to imagine that this could just be a software bug.

But that's what it's going to end up being, I'd bet money on it. Never assume that there's any simplicity in software development, especially a 20 year old product.

Unless they have thrown out their codebase once or twice and re-architected from scratch, something 20 years old by a relatively small team is gonna be laden with subtle bugs.

And the fact that it happens to some people and not others, that does not automatically make it an environmental issue, no matter how logical that feels.

Actually what I'll bet money on is that N3V throws up their hands and tells me to reinstall everything from scratch.

But I sure love this game.

I have created a checksum file for each file from my obviously serviceable C&O Hinton DLС: https://sharemods.com/w0hrttbjj0qt/checksums.zip.html
It will be possible to find out at least that all the files were downloaded correctly and the game simply does not see it, or some files are missing and were lost during download.
Unzip the file checksums.md5 and place it in the installation folder: TRS2022_Content\packages
and run it with any checksum soft. I'm using this one: https://github.com/gurnec/HashCheck/releases
Install HashCheckSetup-v2.4.0.exe and double click on TRS2022_Content\packages\checksums.md5

Oh sorry just catching up that's awesome! I'll get to it later today, sorry for the delay I really appreciate this!

Meanwhile I'm waiting over the weekend for the next steps from N3V support.

Will report back thanks again @oldman777

OK LOL thanks for the detailed instructions that hash check program is great.
I jumped the gun and was going to write some Python to check the files against your data, and then I slowed down and read the entire post that was a timesaver LOL.

I have a dir sc276d_1 that has green/match displayed, but those are few and far between.
The sc276f_2 dir is not there, so it's failing those checks.

Exit the game and delete all folders that start with sc276... Then delete the entire "cache" folder contents. Do not delete the file "performance.conf" if you want to save the graphics settings.
In launcher run the database recovery. After the verification is complete, run buy DLC: https://postimg.cc/hQLVqRZ3
C&O Hinton will be - not installed, click install and compare the result.

Thanks @oldman777 I'm downloading the route now on 100mbps Internet, so we'll see if this succeeds.

This is different from what I tried, I was trying to load the route through the main game interface, not the Content Store, perhaps this will make a difference.

During hte DBR I did see these warnings, for what it's worth, I'll look into how much of a problem it is.

Second, here's the novella I wrote before I saw your post come in:

I don't think I posted, if I go into the Content Store and double-click on the C&O Hinton Division, I see a missing Payware dependency, and honestly I'm new to Trainz I don't understand that. Will google it next.

Now sorry long ramble:

I just want to mention, for the record, and I'm only half-joking:

When I get around computers they break. It's partly because I use computers in ways that programmer's don't expect, I really think there's just something weird about it, and I don't believe in paranormal stuff. But all my life, I'm in a store, the computer at the checkout starts running slow. Stuff like that happens all the time. I used to travel 25-28 days a month from customer to customer managing UNIX/Linux/Windows environments, I swear the customer's stuff was at its worse when I was there. That was always very lucky for me, I'm like the mechanic where you take you care to him and it actually DOES make the noise it won't make for other mechanics.

So if there's someone who going to surface some subtle bug, it's gonna be me. Now I'm also happy to find something in my env that explains this, but to me randomly being able to write one directory while not being able to write another dir right next to it, and my disk passes checks, I would say two things --

First, a question, request for help please: I can run a full CHKDSK unless there's a better way to exhaustively prove my disk is OK? Is there a good well known utility I should be using to test my SSDs? (it's a Pulse GL76 12UEK-052)
(I might act like I know what I'm talking about but that's largely in an academic/cybersecurity/Linux/bash environment. )

Second, to me, it's got to be something in the code in the main interface that downloads the route and sessions, because so far it's just cruising along in the content store with no errors.

Thanks again sorry for the long post.

Oh so the file in the error above exists, here's the file properties, is this file supposed to be a consistent size or will it vary over time? Maybe someone could please check their version of this file:
