BTW, if that train looks familiar, you probably remember it from Trainz Classics. It was, of course, included with TS2010 (or at least the one I purchased).

I would like to learn how to create trains soon. I am learning the basics of reskinning and just did a basic reskin on an amtrak horizon coach. It is a reskin of the old metro north comets with the black stripe that used to be on the WOH. If you can, soon do you think you can create a comet V mesh. I really want those coaches and cab cars. Back to the port jervis line. I can't wait to see how the route looks up to harriman and salisburry mills and the moodna viaduct. This is gonna be a great piece of work.

For some reason, can't help but to go back and forth. Right now, I'm working my way north through Harriman. This section is obviously the result of a terrain merge.

Though for some reason, I couldn't find the appropriate DEM for the 4 mile stretch that is pictured here.

As a result, that area unfortunately won't be as accurate as the rest of the map, but I will try to make it as close as I can to the real thing. I managed to get the TIGER lines drawn on that section, so at least the roads, tracks, and other scenery will be in the right place. It's just a matter of getting the appropriate elevation.

Probably not. That might just be a little bit... illegal.

It's only 30 beans, and it's money well spent. I just got my copy this past weekend. It's well worth the money if you want to model a real prototype.

Ok, so I have finally found the appropriate DEM for the area in question. Unfortunately, it's off by about 880 feet (which equates to about 270 meters), otherwise, it would've been about 1200 feet off in the other direction. Since terrains in Trainz can only be adjusted in baseboard increments, that's as accurate as I can make it. I'll just have to somehow make the join less visible. It is, however, correct height-wise.

By the way, I have decided to give up on using speedtrees for a couple of reasons:
1. They are way too over-sized, making them look more like stage props.
2. After placing about 30 or so, they don't appear until I restart Surveyor. The irony is that they are called "speedtrees", yet more time is wasted placing them in surveyor.
3. Causes the FPS to drop way, WAY, down.

Therefore, I'm replacing them with a mixture of 'trunda' greenery and JVC trees. Although they are slightly older content (and for some reason, some of them I think have alpha problems, causing them to look like "ghost" trees), they look way more realistic than the speedtrees do. Just take a look at this shot...

Route looks amazing! To get that varied tree feeling, try rotating some at different angles! But this is looking really good!

Had the same problem and stopped using them for the same reason.

If you're running in Native mode, most of JVC's trees and shrubs are excellent choices. I don't use any Trunda trees because of that see-thru problem, although the shrubs are still alright, as long as there's something else behind them

Shot's are looking good. Kind of strange that your DEM didn't match. Why couldn't you get a DEM from the same site that would have matched?

Believe it or not, it IS from the same site. After realizing that the last 2 digits including the letter and number in the DEM's code represented the grid position on the map, I Googled it. Come to find out, it was right there on the same site under my nose! :F

I believe that is plate girder bendy by maddy25 on the DLS but I could be mistaken.

I've been watching this thread for a while now and just wanted to say that this looks excellent. I really like the look and I look forward to more screenshots.
