Trees

Just curious who's trees have Auran bought?
From what we've seen lately Auran have bought user content that would have been added to DLS or payware to make it their "own". In my opinion wokring trees would be a bare minimum in a "new" game like TS2009. User created ones on DLS would be ok I guess, but beeing forced to pay for stuff that should have been free really p*sses me off.

I wonder what kind of business Auran is running these days my i'm not very impressed at all. This is earning money easy style from other peoples hard work.

How about some constructive replies rather then just trying to ridicule people who dares to criticise Auran at all. How about answering my question instead.

Do you think it's ok for them to charge extra for the trees that should have been included from the start? I think there would have quite an outrage if theyd'd released the 2004 or 2006 versions with two working trees and then had come up with an addon for 20 more tress. Now it's suddenly ok cause it's TS2009 and some are feeling sorry for Auran. I don't feel sorry for companies they are there to earn money from you, me and our fellow Trainzers, not to perfomr some type of community service.

I've already payed some money for user created content directly to the creators for their hard work. Doing the same for stuff that should have been included and that Auran most likely bought from some hard working creator doesn't feel right. If I have to pay for the tress I'd much rather payed directly to the guy/girl making them. Skipping the corporate pockets of Auran executives.

You seriously bore me aardvark1, we already know that you're the fanboy or maybe fan-old-fart number one you don't have to remind us every so often. How about taking a step back and look at what you're acctually worshiping?

I think Auran has done great some really stuff, but lately the quality really seem to be dropping. Previously they might have been in it by a bit of dedication but now it all seems to be exclusivly about money. If you can't see the signs and how they are moving into way of making easy money (ie buying user content and sell it) you go to be blind.

No one is forcing you to purchase these products.

I have read that there are new trees on the DLS, perhaps they will satisfy you...and...no additional cost to you.

Regards,

Currently Auran has just been down the bankrupt road with Fury. Their TS2009 WBE software is being distributed in the UK at 50% off or 9 quid a pop compare that to $50-$60 for a typical Xbox 360 game. Trainz has always worked because it combines the game engine from Auran with the content supplied for the most part for free by content creators. It's the combination that works.

Paying me for my content doesn't work since I use a lot of textures for free provided I don't profit from the sale. Otherwise the cost would be prohibitive.

The tree pack has almost certainly come from a commercial artist, practically the only way to get these things available is by Auran paying up front. We have a payware area but I haven't seen any commercial artists offering trees for sale there.

Strangely enough I don't always agree with the direction that Auran takes. I try to raise issues that I think are important. If you look in Trainzdev you'll find the tree thread "TRS2009 native mode Trees" where I identified the issue and the 445 replies where people were looking for a solution. However in this case I think the tree pack is a reasonable way to go to give us something that works until the free content creators can fill the void.

I don't object at all if Auran offers good quality payware. In one of my other posts I commented that this is a good way for Auran to make money. If the community can offer payware then why can't Auran. The more trees and other objects that are available the better the game will be.
