Trainz Wiki: "Trainz content creators should feel free to add their own pages"

The Wiki main page sez "Trainz content creators should feel free to add their own pages" and since the right tag will make an on screen link in game, I thought it might be a good idea to make a page for my route, however there seems to be no way to do it, or to make an account.

What gives? Half the advantage of a wiki is community driven articles and information.

You should already have an account on the WIKI; the user name is your forum user name, and the password, as far as I know, is the password for the game. It will be a whole lot easier for you if you are familiar with creating and editing WIKI content pages. If you are not familiar with editing WIKI pages, you might see if there is someone who can set up the page for you, and give you some pointers about editing it.

Nope, tried that first, then tried "I forgot my password" whereupon I entered my name "frogpipe" and it said "Who the hell is frogpipe?" (or something to that effect)

Oh, also I tried a link that showed which said "Create a new account" and it said "You're not an admin so you don't have permission to do that"

As others have noted, the wiki uses your Planet Auran username and password. We don't have wiki-specific accounts and creating a new account there doesn't make any sense. If you're having troubles logging in, please contact helpdesk.

kind regards,

chris

I meant to suggest what WindWalkr did, about contacting the help desk. I know some weeks (months?) back, some long established creators were having trouble logging into the WIKI, and had to rely on assistance. I would also recommend that you log into the WIKI on a regular basis--perhaps once a month or so, whether you need to or not--to help make sure you WIKI account stays current.

Ah. Ok then, thanks. I've submitted a ticket.

Just for future reference (and searches) One thing that is odd is that I keep getting a message stating that I have cookies disabled, and I don't.

I edited one of my Wiki pages a couple of weeks ago and there were no problems. Your Planet Auran login should work to give you user privliges (add and edit unprotected pages) in the Wiki.

You are correct. My login does not work either. It's making a fuss about cookies that I have already enabled. On another PC where my login is current it works fine.

Perhaps I can offer an explanation.

I've discovered that the ts2009.com site uses a particular third-party service that I also use (CloudFlare).

There is a bug in the CloudFlare system that causes sites that use it to not set cookies when logging into a protected part of the site (I should know, I have the same issue with my CMS software).

Only N3V can sort this out, and even then only temporarily.

It's cluttered and not very well organised but it works http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz It is independent of N3V and Auran / N3V have deleted similar stores of information to their wiki in the past.

Please don't spread FUD. We have been careful to maintain and improve the information stored in the wiki since it's inception in 2008. It is the official source of documentation and developer information for Trainz, and while you're more than welcome to host unofficial documentation elsewhere, we don't look particularly kindly on people trying to scare our users off using the official services.

kind regards,

chris

May I remind you prior to 2008 there was an earlier Wiki that was later scrapped and there was a lot of pertinent information on 2009 in an Auran forum that was also scrapped additionally the contents of the old forum have also been lost. Currently I'd say the current N3V wiki is the best source of information but based on past experience can N3V really give assurances that this current N3V one will be there in the future? Since you have said you are a contractor for N3V can you even give an assurance in N3V's name?

Thanks John

Hi everyone, I have fixed the issue with the cookies on the wiki. You should all be able to log into the wiki again now.

Apologies for any inconvenience.
