Trainz Update Announcement (SP5)

The disappointment was due to a bug in the handling of track assets by the update, an easy workaround is available and has been posted many times in these forums.

You obviously have not been around as long as I and others have. The initial T:ANE release still holds the title of the "worst update ever" - it took several SP updates to fix all its issues. TRS22 SP5 does not even come close to that.
Wdym easy workaround?

Wdym easy workaround?
Refers to the track bug that stops you adding track objects (e.g. signals) to track in a route created before the SP5 update - it is not a problem for routes created after the SP5 update. The easy workaround is to perform simple operations using Content Manager without the need to edit scripts or config.txt files - that makes it "easy".

Since it seem the only the rolling stock assets that you have identified have your issue, the fix might involve editing the config.txt files and/or scripts of those assets. This is something that their creator would be best at doing. The SP5 update may have simply revealed a problem that had always existed in those assets but only became obvious after the update. There have been cases of this in the past. It is far better to fix the faults with the assets, not to cancel the update because of a few faulty assets. A possibility.

You've had constant issues prior to the patch that were not even related to the SP5 update that no one else is experiencing before or since the update.

After getting my own content sorted out, I did some work on my routes and did some driving. My very busy Gloucester Terminal Electric with its 14 drivers buzzing around the route, in addition to trains arriving from portals, worked fine. I had that session running for well over 4 hours before I quit and did some texture and Turf-FX updating and at 3:00 am it was time to nap.

My Enfield and Eastern, whose roots date back to January 2004, loaded up fine and I continued adding in Turf-FX grass and PBR textures. At well over 200 miles in length and far from complete, this process has taken hours at a time.

As always, backups are more than just something to do, just because. Many of us utilize simple backups such as copying the complete data folder to an external drive. At nearly 2 TB, mine takes about 3-1/2 to 4 hours to complete. I run my backups at night so not to interrupt them by poking or clicking on something in error. These backups are done in addition to saving WIP and completed works to cdp files.
This issue is related to SP5 though. I've had other issues that other people were happening such as the junction levers not automatically placing. As for the issues that no one is having, I highly doubt it. I personally believe that they're either choosing not address it here and take it up with support directly or don't use the forum. There's just no way these problems aren't showing up for others in my opinion.

The junction issue was a reported bug that was fixed with SP5.

The faulty-but not-faulty assets issue has always been here with the database. There are plenty of posts regarding this and the SOP for this is to always check for faulty content after a repair and view errors and warnings. This cleans up the database and also ensures that any leftover errors are truly errors. This has something to do with the internal tables in the database that we don't have direct access to and this SOP has been in place since TRS2006.

There are plenty of posts about this with specific instructions written by others as well as myself. If you can't find it, ask. That's what this forum is for.

Your derailment issue is something wrong with your route. Most of us have routes that are upwards of 300 miles and run for hours before we quit. Yes, you've provided pics but a dark nighttime view doesn't help. Providing the route via a file share is definitely helpful. I'm not sure if someone asked you about that.

Many times, we've looked at routes to help others and found the issue right off. This is a case of the blind not seeing the problem as it goes and it's not uncommon with many things. I was called on a tech visit once to help a friend fix his computer because his video card wouldn't work. I walked into his house and found he had a jumper set wrong on some other card. I had the problem fixed in less than 20 seconds while he stood and stared at the jumper all day.

I'm not denying that this release didn't have any problems. It wasn't the best one but it wasn't the worst one either.

Issues with content come up periodically with each update. N3V has been tightening up requirements by making the error-checking rules stricter. The reason for this is better reliability. I know you are not familiar with the older products such as TRS2004, but in those days, things were pretty "crashy". A CTD on exiting the program or doing a save was not uncommon. Since that time Auran then N3V pushed for better QA on content. What are now warnings can become errors later. The issue I do have is lack of forewarning by N3V developers to give content-creators a heads up on this.

I have posted the link my WIP route thread. No one has bothered to download or ask about it. I do recall providing day time pictures but can go back and get more should that suffice. As for the first two paragraphs that doesn't apply to me as I don't really have any substantial trouble in fixing those issues.

I do ask for assistance when need be but don't always get it but that's neither here nor there. My issue with N3V Games is I've offered to provide every single locomotive and rolling stock in the consist yet they want to use built-in assets to do their testing. That might be a reason for the lack of replication on these bugs. I don't use built-in content for trains unless it's Jointed Rail or RRMods content. Even then those were once upon a time payware that was packaged. I requested them to use the exact assets that I did when the problems occurred but they refused. I believe that's a big part as to why the issue hasn't been fixed. The derailments aren't tied to one specific area. Otherwise I would've fixed that problem by now. Trains moving along just fine and then suddenly derailing or breaking is certainly annoying. I even once was loading a saved session and because of lag the game froze momentarily and when it started to function, BOOM, the train derailed as a result. I'm pissed at myself for not capturing it in real time but have been far more cautious about this and have recording myself loading up a session in case this ever happens again. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it.

A side comment, I showed a video of my problem with trains slowing down while in notch 8 but no one has responded to me about what could be causing that to happen.

I can understand their refusal to bother testing third party assets (assuming that your definition of "built-in" includes assets from the DLS). Third party assets such as from Jointed Rail and RRMods should be the responsibility of the payware creators, not N3V.
Assets from the DLS is NOT built-in. Those are assets created by N3V or third party companies with partnerships with Trainz. I can't understand why especially when the consists their using aren't derailing. I'm not asking them to test them but use them in a trial run to see if they derail or not. If not then that means I've gotta figure something. If so, then perhaps there's a bigger issue in play. And it's their responsibility given how now their assets are in certain situation built-in or packaged as part of DLC content.

But can I downgrade TRS22 SP5 to SP4?

Assuming you have the Trainz Windows or the MacOS version but not the Steam version. Go to MyTrainz (link at the top of this page) and click the link Download TRS22 or Download TRS22PE (whichever one you have installed) it will take you to the page where you can select which installer to download. I would select the Full Installer.

Take careful note of the build number - currently the page is showin shows 126273 which is SP4 for Windows - MacOS will have a different number. Download this version

Once you have downloaded it copy the install file to backup storage for safe keeping. This will save you having to download it again if needed.

Run the installer. After completing, start Trainz. It will, eventually, ask you to update to the next version (which will be SP5). IGNORE THIS REQUEST.

Alternatively

Continue using SP5 but do not use the well cars that are causing you problems.

At MyTrainz:
- If you click on Product Downloads - Download TRS22, you see (for Windows) TRS22 Retail Edition Build 128487.
- If you click on Product Downloads - Download TRS22 PE, you see (for Windows) TRS22 / Platinum Retail Edition Build 126273.
The first is SP5, the second is SP4. TRS22 and TRS22 PE are the same program, but TRS22 PE has more additional DLC packages.

Works fine for me. I used it multiple times last night due to my stupidity when I was placing textures.
I was starting to think I was the only person who has encountered this.

I've done quite a lot of Ctrl Z since applying the patch (unintentional use error of course) but have hit the glitch only three or four times. It won't work using the shortcut, or the option in the dropdown. The only way to undo is to delete what has just been added.

Weird. I'll need to check that out. It could be a memory issue, meaning both mine and the computer. ;-)

My Build is 128493

It's SP5 or SP4?

Well, in this Trainz Living Railroad Tutorial Video, You can see there's a Legacy View Details Load/Unload Tab

☝️
Click top of the highlighted Link Text

And go to 1:24 there's the legacy version of the View Details Load/Unload Tab

It's the only pain, SP5 is the worst update ever, it can't load 2 Same Trailers or 2 Same Containers on the TOFC/Wellcars

I Wish N3V Devs Could Fix it 😭😭😭
And you should bring back this feature, new SP5 update is painful, you can't load 2 same Trailers or Containers into the TOFC/Wellcars now due to the painful SP5 Update

I wish you can bring it back

Of course, I couldn't! Neither could I place track objects on tracks because the track spline is "invalid".

Still debating whether to pull the trigger on SP5 with its problems. Any advice.
My 2c worth - the only issue I have had (past tense) with SP5 was the often mentioned "Incompatible Spline" message when adding track objects to track laid in SP4 or earlier. Easy fix - far easier than any other work-around I have ever come across. I will be staying with SP5 and I will be exploring its new Dispatch Manager feature.
