Trainz Speed Calculator

For anyone who may be interested...

I have developed a little Windows 32-bit application that will calculate the max speed around a curve in accordance with Title 49, Part 213.9 of the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations.

Since Trainz doesn't create "perfect" curves, there are two methods to calculating the speed.

Basic instructions are on my website along with a download link.

Hi

Hey nice job. I've always calculated curve speed this is nice little tool, well done. My only comment I see you calculate the average of the curve from 3 different places, surely it should be calculated form the tightest part of the curve.

Cheers

You're correct... The points closest to the splines seem to be the tightest. I was trying to get an average of the curve. To avoid averaging, I also included the "Single Radius" box. Then the user can use any direct radius.

Thanks. It's a slick little app, but I have a couple of suggestions. I assume input is in meters and output in km/h, but it might be helpful if you indicated that. It would also be helpful if the result was shown in both km/h and mph, since both are used in driver.

:o Hmmm. I know Trainz is used all over the world... How did I miss that???

Currently (v2.0.8) the input is in Meters and the speed is in MPH. I'll add a checkbox for Metric/Imperial toggle. How embarrassing. Changes will be in v2.1.0.

Added a Unit of measures... Updated to 2.1.5

Welcome to the utility/tool creation club... :)

It's always nice to see people giving up their time and resources to help others (which coincidentally is what I usually do, both in tutorial form, and in utility form)

Shane

P.S. I've already downloaded a copy of the tool, and it looks very useful as far as I am concerned.

I've been writing a huge application for the Flight Sim community but it evolved into something more complex than I could get through. So I'm back into Trainz mode.

I appreciate your appreciation!
