Toronto Lakeshore West

Hi Neil, downloaded the signals OK thanks, the route is now fully operational with a few more bits and pieces added off the DLS, the buildings by Kilanziom and the billboards by Transportfan were welcome additions, and as I couldn't wait for the next installment, I took the liberty of adding a yard at each end of the layout to give a bit more scope for freight workings, to the various industries and yards, and with the added passenger stations, it makes for a lot of fun with all the different consists one can use each day. Having read all the posts on this thread it was really nice to see so many Trainzers, particularly those who know this area well, offering technical help, maps, etc, to make this layout as authentic as possible for your assistance and with the myriad of new items now available on the DLS, foliage, trees, etc, I may be biased in saying that this is your best offering yet IMHO to us all, and yes, I have downloaded all the other routes you have built over the years. Maybe we all long for lots more Canadian layouts as there aren't that many on offer unfortunately. Anyway, a huge thank you for taking all your spare time to offer up this beautifully crafted masterpiece, you have earned your rest, until the day you take to the drawing board once again for the next amazing production from your stable, the quality and attention to detail was so lifelike, it was as though you were standing beside the track, which I guess is the hallmark of this Trainz simulator game in a nutshell.

I'm blushing!!!! You're going to give me a swelled head!
lol

Thank you very much - comments like yours really make this routebuilding thing worth while!

I'd love to see some screenshots if you have a chance!:D

Cheers!

ps - we just got over a foot of snow in one day here - I HATE winter!!!!!!

Yes that was allot of snow, just dug out myself.
Where's a rotary plow when you need one:hehe:

P.S. I'm still enjoying your latest creation Neil!

Hi Neil, well, if you think I can do justice to your creation then I'll post a few screenies, probably at the weekend, when I can experiment with different times of the day and having it snowing as well. Incidentally, talking about snow, have you thought of doing a winter theme for this route, there's lots of nice, new winter trees on the DLS now and I'm sure that it'll go down rather well with our fellow Trainzers. If not, then I'll do a quick texture brush over myself, and I can have 2 versions of your fab route.....:hehe:

Very nice Lornyk5! My favourite pic was your sunset shot! :D

Neil did do a great job with this...it's been an inspiration for me ever since it was built. I'm fairly sure he'll do a winter version (or perhaps let ex-railway man do that) as I know he did a winter version of the UMR. If not, that's okay...I too am suffering from a bit of route-builder burnout.

It's too bad we don't have a VIA LRC set to go with this route. I'm almost at the point where I'd pay someone to build them as freeware for all of us! :'(

Question, the layout doesn't match with the real world position. I downloaded DEM and a matching map for Toronto-Niagara route but this layout is straight across but the actual Oakville-Toronto route is on an angle like this / . I guess you can't change the orientation of a layout so I'll have to rebuild this layout in my own map, putting in the yards and crossover switches, Union Station, etc. Is there any way to copy buildings grouped together into a new layout? Is there a copy and paste function? Well, I'm off to hours and hours of work. I want to eventually create a NY-Buffalo-Toronto route, merging a NY-Garrison Hudson River route with blank DEM to Albany, and Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Toronto. The same route of Amtrak's Maple Leaf. TrainzEasternRoutes is supposed to be doing a Buffalo-Albany route but a public release would be months away. Neil's layout is nice but it doesn't match with what I want to do. I wonder how Compudoc's layout will be?

hey Neil, im having problems with the signals they dont show in the game and when it was installing the signal assets it said on the bottom "the item cannot be found on the DLS" and only like 1 or 2 sets show in the game what do i do to fix this?

You are right - the orientation is not exactly right (in a north, south, east, west kind of way) - the reason is that there were some really difficult yards and I decided to put them in the exact East/West position as it's easier to allign all those tracks with the grids.

Admittedly, I didn't get the angles around Lake Ontario quite right, but I don't think it's really fair to say it's in a straight line either. The route was done from scratch, without the use of any DEM or HOG - just Google Earth, so I will admit it's not perfect, but I'm still proud of the route.

I apologize if the route isn't what you need - I look forward to seeing your route!

Hey Neil, I find this route awsome! Especially seince I'm only a 2-1/2 hour drive from Toronto and fond with alot of the locations on this route! Are you planning on making sessions based on the actual operations on the line? -Chris

You know, I really haven't used the route much since I released it - I'm back with the UMR and really enjoying using that one again.

I'll try to come up with some scenarios for this one over the next few weeks.

Does anyone have any requests of stuff they'd like to see?

Hello Neil, as requested, I am going to hijack this thread totally and give you some free publicity. I have submitted 20 screenshots, 10 taken by day and 10 by night.
I hope you don't mind, but, for the purpose of this little advertisement of your creative talent, I took the liberty of adding a few buildings around Toronto to give it a little more depth.....LOL
Whilst you are having a well earned rest, relax with a drink and admire your handy work....LOL
My thanks also go to Photobucket for the free image hosting and the multi talents of the loco, rolling stock, building creators, and others, without whom this demonstration would fail miserably....LOL

I hope lots more Trainzers enjoy your efforts Neil, of the routes already created and those to come in the future.

Well, since the UMR is on the dls and available to everyone, I guess it's time to work on something new.

This is my first attempt at a prototypical-ish project. I've decided to try to build the mainline from Toronto Union Station west to Oakville. I'm also trying to keep the polys down and the framerates up, so it may not be as detailed as the UMR, but I'll still try to make it look good.

It's nowhere near being completed, but I'd promised some progress shots, so if anyone's interested, here goes:

Where did you get those VIA coches?

Look under user id cnr (kuid 95761). Some of the cars will have a name followed by it (i.e. Alexandria, Cameron Manor). Hope this helps!
