Toronto Lakeshore West

Hehe, thanks for asking Neil! The wedding went well! The trip was a stressful but it was worth it! :)

So far, I am only working on one session. I want to see what others think of what I've made and I've come to realize it's a lot of work! :D I think that if I build another session, maybe I'll tinker with your map as I'd want to add a few portals, rework the platforms and stations, add some trackmarks, maybe tinker with some of the scenery (make it higher or lower poly depending on the area) etc...we'll see. :)

Right now, I'm just alpha testing the route. The session at it's max, will have about 20 consists going around and I want to make sure that the trains go about smoothly and go where I want/tell them to go. It's difficult because I've learned that the AI will take stupid shortcuts even if I don't want it to, will back up instead of waiting for a minute or two and that the trackmarks, while helpful are sometimes impossible to reach if I haven't remembered that it's accessible by an earlier junction. Regardless of which, I hope to have this ready to go within a week. I think I've smoothed out most of the hiccups...but I'm worried about all the third party rolling stock I've used. This may create a big problem for those wanting to use it...

I will keep everyone posted about it here until it's ready to be released. I just want to thank you again Neil for making such an awesome and very prototypical representation of the TLW. :)

Lakeshore West, 2006 and CMP

Below is a list of 'fawlty' assets that come along with "Lakeshore West". These assets are 'called fawlty' by CMP in Trainz 2006 SP1. Personally I think CMP has OCD and in the wrong places too.
I'm posting this list for a number of reasons:
1) I love and admire neil's routes, also they are, for me, nostalgic; I used to live there.
2) It might help others who have 2006, but don't/can't fix broken assets. And, yes I know you can just ignore broken assets, but for me that is like looking at The Mona Lisa with Duct tape over her smile. :D
3) It might prod 2004 content creators to be a little more careful. When I re-install 2004, I'll post those from the list below that are wrong in 2004. Although missing or misplaced .tga, .bmp and .png should have the same result in 2004.

Bold
: asset name, froobie: the creator and the problem and result.
E=easy (to fix), M=moderate, H=hard and U=unresolved
Action: Fixed and OK. edited/substituted and Q (Questionable).
Edited means I did unspeakable things to config.txt. For example:misspellings and "not permitted tags" get outright deleted: lisense, desription, created, user-name etc. I do not fix them. (I know the difference between "user-name" and "username".) :p
Q means I'm not really sure if the result is what the creator intended after I substituted my best guess as to what it should look like or do.
U=Unresolved means serious study or help from the creator.

Tankers:
Some of them had an Unknown Kuid2 <30671:92711390:1> it should be Kuid2 <30671:9271390:1>. Editing the config.txt fixes that problem.

Some of them (also) had a problem in the "queues" tag; where a "product-kuid <kuid:-3:10044>" is present. Deleting this line satisfies the CMP. Please don't ask, I have no idea why. The kuid is for Liquid Load and the kuids which were in "allowed products" were indeed for Liquids. These two fixes fixed some Tankers that are not in Lakeshore West.

If I seem like I know what I'm doing, don't be fooled. When I was a teenager I used repair and/or replace car engines, transmissions and rear-ends with a large hammer, a large crescent wrench (aka adjustable spanner) and a screwdriver.

Successfully too. :cool:

Also If some kind soul would enlighten me as to how to make tables here, I would be grateful.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having some problems getting those assets to work. I would have thought that the GO cab and coach would come out okay...

Have you tried tarl (the trainz asset repair library site?) That might help...

I feel the same frustrations when a member makes a piece of rolling stock or map for '06 without keeping the '04 users in mind, but in the end, it's their choice as they've put in all the work to make it. I think Auran should have tried harder to keep things more compatible as time went on. I know they are a business model, but that serves no one...

On a sidenote, I uploaded my beta version of a session I made for this but I have to reupload it again (I have to rename it so people know it's for the TLW). When it finally gets to the DLS, I will let everyone know...

GO Cab & Coach

I'm sorry to hear that you are having some problems getting those assets to work. I would have thought that the GO cab and coach would come out okay...

Some details on the GO rolling stock.
The GO Cab & Coach (in 2006) don't:
1) Automatically number themselves. The config files contain: number_low "240" and number_high "255". CMP identifies these as errors. I deleted the entries and hard coded the number to 240. So all the GO Cabs are numbered 240 and the coaches 2400. I don't know how to fix this problem to reflect the creators vision. Yet.
2) There is a reference to a shadow mesh: GO_coach_shadow.im There is no such mesh present. However, there is a mesh and it is in the correct sub-directory called GO_coach_shadow.pm Editing the config file to reflect this causes the CMP error to go away.

The amended GO Coach and Cab function (in 2006). They work, but they aren't proper. Go ahead, think it: "What a fussy old ..." :hehe:

IMNSHO, this is a perfect example of how wrong: "Just use Surveyor and delete all the missing assets ..." is.

Hmm...in 04 they will work, but I had to adjust the numerical values in that set (if you put too many coaches or cabs, the numbering system crashes). I think this was a Beta version of sorts by Magicland at the time...as I'm no expert in 06, perhaps someone here can help you with getting them to work.

Don't expect the session for a few weeks at best: the DLS is notorious lately for bimonthly updates at best. I guess Auran is being forced to squeeze water from a rock at this point...

Lakeshore West + TRS 2009 Beta

Hi Neil,
Using CMPs archiver I loaded Lakeshore West + Tour session into the beta.
There were a few assets which were declared fawlty - I figure about a days worth to fix them - if they are fixable by me as opposed to the asset creator.

First gut reaction: noticeably less stuttering.

More after I fix the fawlty assets.

I wonder if anyone would make another Go cab one that we can go inside and drive/engineer it from that direction. It would be cool that we can have the lights turn on or off and have a bell and horn.

still enjoying your route neil I was still thinking of trying to extend it from toronto to brampton or just bramalea.

That would be cool. :) From what I heard/read somewhere, it wouldn't be all that hard (if someone who knew what they were doing with gmax was on board). I believe someone said that a cab attachment point was all that was needed. Possibly the same with the lights...we could use the cab from magicland's RDC's.

Jennifer, if you extended it from Toronto towards Bramalea or what not, that'd compliment what I'm working on very well! At most, I plan on going east to the area around the Malton GO, although I've been busy lately and work on what I'm doing is slow at the moment...

Plenty to do from Toronto to there though...:confused:

What happened to the Via Lrc project that was on going? Did it go under again. it would be an addition on to your route gisa and neils

THAT is a very good question. I don't know what happened but it is as if Schimitar dropped off of the face of the earth in Trainz. I pm'd him about it a while ago but he never replied. I know he's been to the forums somewhat recently but maybe he just lost interest or I offended him somehow. I think he mentioned he was doing some work for Crisis or something. I really hope I did not offend him but as he hasn't replied to my PM, I have no idea. Either way I guess we will have to wait for someone else to do it. Send him a PM if you'd like...maybe you'll have some luck getting in touch with him?

Just a quick note to say I'm an old MSTS user (...meh) and a new Trainz user (2009) -AND- that I live near Lakeshore and Kipling, so the Toronto Lakeshore West is my home turf.

I'm loving this map (I just got the map, no sessions) and I'm slowly adding trains and streetcars as I learn Trainz. So.... THANKS!!

I'm really happy you like it. Just a question - where did you get 2009? Is it for sale in stores yet in Canada, or did you download it?
