Tired of Trainz

And what about Railworks 2? RW2 also doesn't have the bugs and issues with it's industries and the buildings and houses look so much more realistic than those of trainz after all I've seen the trailer and videos on YouTube and it's pretty good but I will try the game out for myself before I judge it. The game isn't as picky with the locos and how they are built. Plus I tried to get one the KCS SD50 from World of Trainz into the game but when I click on it in the game or try to use it, the game freezes and closes down. No matter if it's in Railyard, Surveyor, or Driver, it still doesn't work and I don't know why.

Whoa hold up were was I at that when we say that railworks looks better beep wrong answer lets try it again. Trainz 12 is far better graphics now than railworks and the al in trainz for the most part if the route is set up correct the al has no problems. As for 2009 sense when does it have all these industry problems beep wrong answer again man your losing big money not good at this game I see? I have 2009 and maybe it because the item has errors will cause issues. Anyways railworks really does suck don't waste money unless you want to.

The idea side of Beattie:mop:

Hi uracco --

" ... I don't know what you are talking about AI they work fine for me."

Really!~? Only, in Sniper's words, if you see the AI as just being moving scenery.

Some of us think that AI and players should interact. When you can get RW to do this get back to me:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv3iEH0CPak

(Best watched at 480p and full screen.)

Until the 4 minute mark the video follows one of the AI trainz. At 4 minutes into the video we jump into and control the green locomotive with two NP box cars.

Well done Phil. I noticed that many signals were required to make it work properly. Do you have it on the DLS by any chance?

Regards, tomurban

Hi Tom --

Well, yes and no.

If you mean the route exactly like it is shown in the video (no scenery, no textures, no ... ) the answer is "no".

But I thought that it would make an excellent little route so there is, in the words of Auran when they released TRS2006, a "fully realised" version on the Download Station as "IntenCity 1a". There are a number of sessions for it too.

Also see here:

If you run this route after looking at the video its heritage will be obvious.

Huh?!

"Location: (O small town of) Yateley,Hampshire, UK"
"Long live the HST!"

Oh. :hehe:

Guy's guy's guy's,
The lad was having trouble with his multiple industries not working for him, can we help him with this problem and debate about other sims elsewhere please. :p Thank you gentlemen.:hehe:

Back on topic

OK - let's get back on topic.

MIN has always worked for me in '04, '09, '10 and 12.

Either:

1. The MIN is not set up correctly. See an illustrated monograph here that will help configuring it correctly:

https://rapidshare.com/files/438627468/LARS_ProtoLARS_MIN_Tutorial.pdf

Or:

2. There is a faulty product that is causing an error when MIN is configured.

Or:

3. The Trainz installation is corrupt.

If it is not 1. then it must be 2. or 3.

"Why did this become a Trainz vs Railworks thread?"

At the very start, when the original poster said in the very first post;

"I'm going to get TS12 and it better not have these same freaking problems!! If they do, then I'm going over to Railworks 2 and I'm sure they are much better in terms of quality and realistic features and overall gameplay."

Having extensive experience with Railworks before I gave up on it, I was merely warning him that he was in for serious disappointment if he expected it to be better than Trainz in ANYTHING except appearance.

Thanks Phil. Your Urban Industrial series keep me busy for hours at a time.

One other point to make to the OP, if he's thinking about RW2. Don't expect it to be cheap, the majority of content being produced is payware (three commercial routes released in the last week), very little content outside UK based stuff and a bit of North America - nothing like the range of stuff for free on the DLS.

What do you mean?

He's probably mocking that you're interested in fairly modern british railway workings, which aren't quite as complicated to AI script as american workings. Especially for passenger activity such as one would expect with the HST. We have so few single-track routes that it doesn't really matter too much if the only AI you see is coming towards you on a completely separate track, or occasionally passing a freight train sat in a passing loop.

Certain train sims have even managed to fairly reasonably model such AI workings without even having moving AI.

Well with my wife a vacation visiting her family, I found myself bored on a Friday night so instead of going out and getting in trouble, I did the next best thing. I bought railworks2 on steam:hehe:

Now I had railworks and found the world editor to be rather non-inviting. railworks2 doesn't appear to be any more inviting but it's early yet.

It is pretty, in an arcade sort of way. It runs pretty good too. But I don't think I'm going to uninstall all my versions of Trainz and become a railworks2 convert anytime soon.

It was just that I was bored on a Friday night while the wife was away and I could either get in trouble a lot for a lot more than 35 bucks, or I could get in trouble just a little for only 35 bucks, I chose the latter:hehe:

Still, I update TS2009 to version 3.3 (44653) (SP4) and no matter what mode, compatibility or native mode, now it won't work at all, thread exceptions still occur!!

"it seems the longer I play the game, the more problems I have. Maybe it's my computer" Quote from post #5. If it worked at one time and gradually got worse OVER TIME, that indicates software problems related to new addons, corrupted files, fragmented files, or other software interfering.

Again, run virus and spyware scans to make sure your system is clean, run the extended database repair to fix any corrupted Trainz files, and run the disk defragment utility because over time ALL files tend to get fragmented.

Everything is a lot more realistic.

How many real trains have you run? I run real trains for a living and I can tell you first hand that RW2 is far from realistic. I can get a more realistic feel from Trainz in cab mode any day.

I get a kick out of people who CLAIM how realistic a sim is when they have never ran the real thing.

I got that error a lot when I first got Trainz. The following procedure fixed it right up. Do an Extended Database Repair. Do at least one, maybe two or three; just exit out of CMP and wait a few minutes between them. If you have errors afterwards, do a validation (See Zec's Post here.) Ignore the part of about setting Builtin = true, because you want to force validation of all content, not just the stuff that came with Trainz. This takes quite a while so be patient.
