The Strangest Glitch Yet... (Warning, Large Images)

Edit: Actually, no large images.

OK...so I have come across the strangest and probably the most hilarious glitch I have ever found. I recently downloaded Dave Snow's driveable trackmobile from the DLS. I put it in a session to test it out, and all seemed well upon the start of the session. I choose cab mode, as I normally do. I release the brakes, wait for the brake cylinder pressure to go down, then turn up the throttle. It starts to accelerate, and then takes off. My mouth hangs open as I watch the speed readout go up to absurd numbers, finally topping out at around 530 MPH.

Does anyone else have this hilarious problem? For me, the trackmobile works normally in DCC mode, topping out at about 57 MPH and accelerating/decelerating normally. But cab mode is another story.

This screenshot was extremely hard to take, I had to time it just right. This was my third try.

:hehe:

Max-accel and maxspeed are used in DCC mode. The values for CAB mode are in the throttle-power container of the enginespec's config.txt. For each thottle notch (0 to 8) there is a list of value pairs. The first value is the speed in meters per second, and the second value is the tractive effort in kN at that speed. The last value pair has to be the maximum speed and a zero tractive effort. Otherwise the traincar will accellerate forever.

Quite a few locos that run well in DCC ... are absolutely uncontrollable speed machines in Cab mode, throttle 1 ... ZooM !

The Jet Sled's are one of these ... 786mph ! Altoona to Cresson in 58 seconds !

I've had a couple "Big Steam Cab" equipped steamers do this to; you crack the throttle open like 2-4 percent, and the thing hits 75mph before you can say Decapod! My record's somewhere in the 200-250mph range, and that was with the throttle closed all the way! thing just kept accelerating, uphill no less!

I'd fix it, but it's too hilarious to watch.

That would be an effect of the max-accel and maxspeed tags in the config.txt for that asset's enginespec.

OK, thanks, I'll have a look at the enginespec.

Well, now we know how they'll service the new high-speed rail system in California ... :hehe:
LOL!

I think that's intentional, though. It would fly off Horseshoe Curve!

LOL, that's even better than the trackmobile!

Yeah, I've seen something similar on the N&W Y-6b in the eastbound coal drag scenario. I get it up to about 15mph without too much trouble, and then the boiler pressure goes through the roof and she just runs away on me, generally resulting in busted couplers shortly thereafter.

First off, I am no expert on the engine subject.

But... I fiddle with them a bit.

Here is my mod for the Trackmobile. It manages to move 4 loaded grain hoppers
at 16 mph, notch 8 in 1/2 mile.

Now this is for the patient types, not the speed demon types.

I also noted the compressor in this is not a SD70Ace. It takes a while. I found
that waiting till the pressure hits 119 is a better way to move without lags.

I also changed the sound file to AAC MWM Cummins Diesel Engine Sound,<kuid:213782:53000>.
To my ears it just sounds better.

Try this in the engine spec. All operation was in CAB mode.

Thanks so much! I will paste this in.

The last tractive effort for notch 1 isn't zero.

Peter
Sorry for my ignorance but where exactly should I fix this in the enginespec?

Cool. Where'd you get the other one?
