The General, a US Civil war locomotive

He might want to make a cab for the Civil War version, as they are much different even though it's the same engine. You know how these cabs are!:p

The cab will be slightly different. No air brakes... Esentially it is the same cab though. Maybe different colors... I think they did a fine restoration job on the real one which I copied from. Not sure what else could be too different. MAY tackle the firebox opening... but we will see. Whistle will be the same, as the sounds. Will do different sounds for the Yonah and Texas though...

Engine got a clean bill of health so expect to see it by this weekend!!! :D :D

Can't wait. I was about to toast my new route, but I guess I'm keeping it, but installing a diesel fueling station.

OK, Just uploaded the NEW engine and tender to

http://www.trainzproroutes.com/downloads/

As soon as he gets it on the web it's yours!

BE AWARE that this is a COMPLETE rework to the original engine and tender!! MAKE SURE IT STATES THAT ON THE WEBSITE BEFORE DOWNLOADING!!!

You WILL want to delete the original in it's entirety from CMP and install the new engine AND tender! They are designed to work with each other.

As always, if YOU find something that is whacked, LET ME KNOW ASAP! I will correct it and get it posted.

I will attempt to upload it to the DLS this weekend. Hopefully it will go through this time! ;) It will also be available on other sites and I'll post that when I can.

ENJOY!!!

Forgot to note: Read the "readme.txt" that comes with the engine / tender.

For a special thrill, in cab mode, hold the whistle lever down for it's full duration. ;)

Oh, no, I'm not dumping the woodburner. No way. I'm keeping both...:)

Fantastic job!!!!!!!:clap::Y::clap::Y:

I DL the General and it is the BEST! What I really like is that it has the fireman who can keep up with my speed

Keep in mind that the Civil War version will be a true wood burner. The "Museum" version in real life burns diesel fuel. The NEW tender is designed to simulate that, and it still has the wood on it as did the General when it was touring the United States in the 1960's. The wood on the new tender is also animated to give a visual "fuel gauge".

Your choice, but when I re-do the original "wood" tender it will have the appearance of the Civil War version, (not too different). The new tender is a completely different asset with a different KUID number so you could have both.

I just want to give credit where the credit is due. This engine was a combined effort of several people. I might have done the mesh and the texture, but without these people it wouldn't have ever been the engine it is.

SPECIAL THANKS to Robert Pearson of "Pearson Locomotive Workz" for creating the enginespec file(s) and for enabling this engine to burn oil. Without his help, it only LOOKED good! Now it runs GREAT too!

Also thanks to "Pencil42" for his help, especially with the animated front coupler! :-)

Many thanks to Ben Neal of "Sub-Par Productions / Trainz Narrowgaugers" for his help in creating this replica. Especially the animation of the drivers and main bogey.

Engineer mesh was designed by Max Nelson/Elvenor.

Thanks to all out there on the forum who offered advice and help.

Thanks to the Southern Museum of Locomotive History for their help with photos and misc. items.

Thanks to Joe Swagger for his help and encouragement.

Finally thanks to my wife who patiently taught me the finer workings of Paint Shop Pro!

Just a quick note, on the TPR download station in the description it states"

"Re-fuels at any of Phil C`s DIESEL refueling stations. (NOTE: MUST use tender KUID 315087:1066 for this to function) "

The KUID is incorrect, should read 315087:1025

This should be fixed in the near future.

Also the KUID line is incorrect and should show the same KUID as mentioned above.

Don't forget me! I pointed out that the number plate was displaced!:) Very nice jorb there tbryson2! I mght be interested in reskinning it sometime in the future:o , but I likes it how it is now! And with the tender tweaked, maybe Pencil should make a version of his coaches that have modern couplers...:o

Or you could pull the coaches with the front of the engine:hehe:

Your in there as "Thanks to all out there on the forum who offered advice and help." Couldn't remember everyone but you all were important. Thanks!

Do want to mention that I misspelled Joes name. It is Joe Swogger, not Swagger. He's promised not to hunt me down. (nice guy!) ;)

I would like to see reskinning on this. I may offer a "generic" 4-4-0 based on this in the future. That would lend itself better to reskinning. It won't have dedicated number or nameplate. Wonder if you can make the name selectable like you can the number. Hmmm, but I don't need any more "projects" at this time.

I took the General out for a spin, but I couldn't get the front coupler down after I did some shunting. How do you get it to go down

I normally don't run trains in Cab mode, but dude, I had so much fun running the General around the Highland Valley a couple of times!:D

Also, nice "Treat" with the whistle. Did you get the clip from the William Mason?
