Guess my General will be "different". THAT's sure to throw some people off who don't / won't know the history of this engine. Sure to get some feedback eventually! I think it will be cool to pull up to a fillin station and top off!

Yep, doing well. Haven't been doing much with Trainz the last month or so, though. But, (knock on wood) I hope to have a couple of passenger cars to you (and Joe) for review before too long.

General Civil War version

Here is an update on what I've been doing during my stay in Wisconsin.

Nice work, so far! But have you uploaded the updated 60's version, yet? Also, maybe pencil could use that model to get a head start on the St Paul & Pacific "William Crooks" engine. We need an engine to go with those ST P&P coaches!

Have not uploaded it yet. I'm currently away from home in training. During my "off time" I'm working on the Civil War version. I should be able to upload it when the script gets finished. Would be nice to find someone with Trainz04 to test it to verify compatability. Otherwise it is done.

Ok, got the scripts, (THANK YOU SO MUCH RPEARSON!!!) and need to test out the oil filling capability of the tender.

NOT sure which layout or scene, or asset I need to test it out.

Any hints out there?

I can successfully use the "wood shed" mentioned earlier in this thread for the wood burning engine. Now I need a fuel oil refilling asset I think.

What is "commonly" used for other engines? I tried using Phil C's refueling depot in TideWater South, but it does not work I'm assuming because I need attachment points on the tender.

ANY help or advice will do.

There's an oil refilling tower at carsoncarshops.com, try it out! Maybe you should test the engine on the 1880s old west route on the DLS .

NEED AN OPINION HERE!!!

The existing General (Museum version) is Standard gauge.

The ORIGINAL Civil War version is Broad Gauge.

SHOULD I MAKE THE CIVIL WAR VERSION STANDARD GAUGE? By doing so it will not only save me a LOT of time, it will look correct on just about any layout in Trainz.

OR Should I make it Broad gauge and be "accurate"? By doing this, of course it probably won't look right on most tracks, and I'm not sure if there are any "broad gauge" tracks in Trainz.

I'm seriously considering leaving it Standard gauge for the above reasons.

I say make it standard gauge. Unlike 36" gauge, there is very, very little 5' content for Trainz. It would just look big and out of place. I encountered a similar situation in working on TER's Pittsburgh Industrial, since the trolley system is "Pennsylvania Broad Gauge" as they call it. For the same interests, I opted to model it in standard gauge. So make it standard gauge.

The oil tower should be at carsoncarshops.com> downloads> engine yard content, you should be able to download it there. As for the layout, search "1880s" in "Layouts" on the DLS.

Doesn't matter to me - I can whip up a set of broad gauge tracks for you, if you desire. I'll set the coaches to whatever you decide

The oil tank is also on the DLS, but it supplies the wrong type of fuel. It supplies bunker c oil, which is what most oil-fired ships and locomotives used in the first half of the 20th century. The current prototype General has been converted to Diesel, so it can use current locomotive refueling facilities.

I'd say broad gauge, it will be uniqe in the world of trainz. To me the locomotive dosen't look quite right in Std gauge... And Pencil you say it has been converted to DIESEL!? Does it burn it in the fire box or is there a diesel motor somewhere on her?

She was converted to burn Diesel during her refitting in the 1960's. Reason being that they could refuel her easily. Had to do some modifications but she runs under her own steam. NOT a diesel engine.
