Conrail T-1 Steam Locomotive No. 2101

image.png

Hi, recently decided to reskin the K&L Trainz model of 2101 during her Chessie Steam Special years... into Conrail colours!
I was inspired by two things: MilwaukeeRoadJames' model, and the existing Lionel model itself.

The main things i have done at the minute are:
The engine herself
Tender
And the aux tender.

Things i am planning to do:
Make my own coaches (the ones you see in the image are from the DLS)
and maybe try remove that pesky eagle from the headlight (though, it does look kinda nice)

Any feedback would be appreciated!

(btw, no, i cannot give this model out, it's a personal reskin, and i don't think k&l would be happy)

The 2102 ran on Conrail in eastern PA (and NJ-NY in 1987-1988) between 1985-1988 on special excursions, Sept. 1985, August 30 and fall 1987, and May to October 1988. 2101 actually started out on Conrail track at Hellertown at the old Reading roundhouse, and headed south to Baltimore in 1977 on track which is now gone and a rail trail north of Quakertown. It was going to start the Chessie Steam Special which ran 1977-1978. I saw a picture of an HO or O model of a Conrail T-1. The late Dick Sanborn who was CEO at Seaboard/CSX in the 80's moved to Conrail in 1988 or so and wanted to start an official Conrail steam program possibly using an ex-NYC locomotive. But his sudden passing (1989?) put an end to that. Steve would probably kill you if you gave it out, but what about just the art files that you reskinned? I was going to make a Conrail one myself and I found a Conrail font on a site including the can opener logo. But the loco and tender has yellow, orange, and dark blue and it's hard to repaint that a solid blue color.

How about this? I found this on a model train site. Obviously that is a fictional scheme but it's cool to see what a Conrail steam locomotive would have looked like if they would have had a program like Southern/NS and Chessie. The 2100 would have been a better candidate though as 2101 was burned in a roundhouse fire in Kentucky in 1979. It was repainted back to it's AFT scheme and put on display at the B&O Railroad Museum. The 2100 is undergoing restoration in Cleveland, OH as #250, in an AFT 2 type scheme. Can you at least post pics of your reskin? You need to host pics somewhere to post them here.
