Textures problem

Some items I used in Tane are white textured in ts2019. These items were imported from sketch up wharehouse using ruby TMIX.
I tried to change the textures and the result is the same.
In CM are reported some warning but not related to textures.
I found also an item on the download station, named uss fitzgerald navy destroyer with the same problem.
Someone knows the reason of this malfunction?
Thank you

It may not be the texture file or files that are causing the issue but something else in the asset.

I have that asset installed in Trainz Plus and it does have a far "paler", even a ghostly colour, than I would expect. I opened it in Explorer to have a look and there are no texture files at all. It has just the mesh file. So the "ghostly pale" colour may be the default mesh colour without any textures applied to it.

Perhaps your "textures" are exactly the same - a mesh without any textures? There may be texture files in the asset but are they attached to the mesh? Just adding them to the asset does not attach them (and I do not know how to attach a texture to a mesh).

This is another point that I can add to my growing list of reasons to avoid using assets created using Sketchup. Sketchup was never designed to create assets or objects for use in video games. It is a popular choice for creators only because it is a lot easier to use than Blender and other 3D apps that are designed to create assets in video games.

My thoughts (and experiences).

I looked at the with Imeditor. It has 14 notex materials. It shows solid enough in TS2012, but is so bright in TS2019 that it is almost completely bleached out. If the height is raised so that the hull below the waterline is visible, the red and black of the hull can be seen ok.

Chris.

The process of "attaching" textures to a mesh is known as UV mapping and this is done in the 3D creation software when making the mesh. Textures are usually based on images, and if so, they must be available to the mesh by being in the asset's folder or (by way of a config reference) in another installed asset which acts as a mesh/texture library.

Textures can also be simple RGB colours assigned to specific parts of the mesh. They require no actual images, hence they are known as notex materials (meaning no texture image). They are computationally very low-cost, but being uniform colours, they have no visual detail. As Chris said, this asset uses notex materials.

The unbearable whiteness of the upper half of the ship probably comes from a Diffuse or Specular colour that is too bright. This is not a fault of SketchUp or of notex materials. Colour and specular brightness are parameters controlled by the asset's creator in whatever 3D program is used.

I had this problem when I imported the Class 800s from the Sketchup 3D warehouse into Sketchup then into Trainz (With permission from Platform3D the author of the models). Most of the models are large areas with no textures, just plain colours I went onto each colour and changed them each so they were much darker, which looked too dark in sketchup but fine in Trainz. I have had people asking to reskin them, which is impossible as there are no textures.

@gmanga, @chrisaw RE: The Destroyer >>> It's white/pale because it does not have any diffuse textures applied at all. It is only using the in-app rendering-only material colors that are used to differentiate different parts of the mesh, while working in sketchup. Those colors are not image textures, and can't be exported. The person who exported the model did not know what they were doing, LOL, at all.

I have no idea what you did to try to change the textures, as their is no texture.txt files or texture images to change.

Thank you all for your support.
I did'nt examine the uss fitzgerald with Cm and I didn' try to change that item textures.
I tried to change my items textures.
In my items textures are present: as I said, I used them in Tane and they worked correctly.
So my problem is not due to textures missing.
The warnings reported seem related to the poligon number: but this is a warning in
many items imported from sketch up which work fine.
For instance, in one of my item the alert indicate VE107, VE109 and VE166 as
not critical errors (yellow). This happens for other items too, which are correctly textured.

@gmanga >>> If you'd like, you could dropbox the .skp file for your model. I'll look it over in SU, fix any poly problems, or anything else I find, and send it back to you.
I would need to know which version of SU you are working in for the return model.

Thank you for your offer ricomon35. I can't send you the skp file because I haven't it anymore.
I did the sketch up conversion of some items many years ago when I used ts 2010 or ts2012.
I did'nt save the original files.
Many of them are no longer in the warehouse.
Thank you again.
