Talk about a scam

Sorry, but the Wiki is not a CCG.

The wiki is indeed a Content Creation Guide. You not liking the format doesn't change the facts.

Give me something that I can print and study when I'm away from a computer.

I'd love to, but unfortunately I'm told that we can't afford a full-time technical documentation writer at this point so your best bet would be to print the specific pages that you're interested in.

kind regards,

chris

"Here is a challenge to Auran (N3V): Please show us a precedent. Please show us one software product out there that isn't 100% backwards compatible. Just one."

Other than some of the flightsim stuff, most games aren't even slightly backward compatible.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/

Mods made for "The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind" will not work in "The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion" at all, even tho Oblivion is a direct sequel. In fact most flightsims from Microsoft had SOME compatibility in each succeeding version, but it was never very good, and didn't last forever - a mod for FS3 would work okay in FS4, maybe maybe not in FS5, not at all in the following version. Hardware changes, software changes, I got an autistic kid who loves to play old games and am constantly having to screw around with games like "Thief: The Dark Project" which require hacks and patches to run on things like XP and duo core processors.

I'm always in favor of moving forward, my one criticism of TS2010 is they got the cart before the horse - some type of automatic dummy friendly repair and conversion utility should have come FIRST, after that invent the pedantic error checker that finds every picayune little bug. Having something that finds all these little errors and kicks the asset out of the game is useless to the average user, what's needed is something that will suggest fixes and make the fixes, or suggest a list of alternatives.

The wiki isn't much help at present either, for the TS2010 content manager and content creator whenever I click the help file I usually get "There is currently no text in this page, you can search for this page title in other pages or edit this page. ". There you go, I'm trying to figure out how to use the blasted thing and they want ME to write the help guide? :hehe:

more logic .. and some experience , add most of the EA stuff in there also , oh! and Quake , there's bunch more but that should for now .

A percentage of errors can't be fixed by users , and it seems a few are'nt PC literate enough to attempt some the fixes needed ..... and if you plan on getting a new cart why bother with the old one ?

Fact is quite a few can't/won't accept change , seems when I stop by here people are still going over old ground .

Days of our lives :hehe:

Forgot those, Quake had four versions so far, none compatible with the others. I managed to get ONE of my original DOOM levels to work in DOOM II, but it really wasn't worth the effort, just wanted to see if I could at the time. Doom3 fuggedaboudit, Windows rather than DOS4GW.

As for clueless computer clutzes getting stuff to work that's what I'm talking about, for me it's tedious and aggravating, for many it's impossible. Shouldn't be that hard to program something that the computer clueless could use easily, Mike Simpson of Route Riter fame lives in Australia, hire him to write the code. Make it easier on the rest of us too, why peek poke push pop jump if you can click a few buttons to fix the most common errors? Just took a quick look at the built in content for TS2010, sorted by build number - 19,726 items, only 4,572 of those are build 2.4 or higher. That's why when you try to clone most built in content for repainting you gotta go thru all the screwing around to make the clone work before you can repaint it, instead of updating stuff for 2010 they somehow cheated and made the old stuff work inside.

It seems my friend, that you can find fault in anything. A wonderful virtue I'm sure, but one I do not wish to share!

Pray tell, since when has a CorelDraw file or a Quicken file, or a Excel file for that matter be classified as a text file?

Only you will have the wisdom to answer, but I wonder who will listen?
Dear me, playing the man instead of the ball. Naughty.

Still, at least one was listening. :D

I expect most people will be able to see there is a difference between the types of files you mention and a 3D file format and that as 3D engines have developed, they have rarely been backward compatible. It's not often that the fps performance of my excel spreadsheets is that important.

Re Quake, Quake 4 (which is a comparitively recent game) doesn't even run on Vista - shame as I never actually finished it.

As regards downloading, well if you go to UKTS or TS.com for MSTS/RW stuff there is limited free access but if you want other than dial up speed you need to buy a subscription.

My one emerging wish is that for the next version Auran actually "clean house" and put out a version that ditches all the old twitchy content - all those telegraph lines built into TS2010 which render horrid alpha problems when you look at them, etc. We'd still have more built in objects and motive power/stock by default compared to Railworks but there would be no dubiety anymore.

Vern, regarding Quake 4, strange that you have a problem with Vista, have you installed the updates or tried compatibility mode (although this should not be neccessary)? Hope you get to finish the game, have you at least pogressed to the butcher part?

The oldest game I am still playing is the game of the year for 1999, on Vista.
