T:ANE may obsolete all other versions of TRAINZ

I think the key word here is Potential.

What we are getting is something that brings us closer to the sort of realism (in terms of looks) that we've wanted for years.

It will take support from the community in buying T:ANE to allow N3V to further squash bugs and add new features (and tools), and it will take content creators to deliver top quality assets to show off the system (but not over-using. Not every building will need bump-mapping, but grungy textures and good use of specular maps will add more realism).

From the videos I've seen, the procedural junctions, the lighting, the shadows, and the water alone make it looks so much better.
And from what I've heard from most people, the performance of loading in boards and assets is much smoother.

And the price is very good right now.
I could spend that in a couple of hours in the pub.

T:ANE NOT succeeding does make all the other versions obsolete.

Without any cash flow most businesses die.Harold
True ... Even I probably will buy T:ANE inside of the first year ... So they will get my money too, eventually, as I have purchased supported all other versions excluding 09, and have purchased DLC payware, and multiple FCT's

Unpatched 09 was the only other version that had 5000m draw distance and no "redraw/pop-up".

You missed the good one before T:ANE, always had TS2009 to run the great early routes.

Now I can retire TS2009, T:ANE runs them at 60FPS.

I would not be so quick to boast that T:ANE will succeed, as it hasn't even had it's first release, not until May ... It may have tons of problems.

Nothing new there then as if you believe everything that's posted on here, TS12 apparently has tons of problems as did 2010 as did 2009 as did every other version which didn't stop people buying or using them.

Is it better than TS12 or older, definately yes is it perfect? of course not, this is the start of a completely new chapter in Trainz development so expect problems.

It finally has a draw distance that does what it say on the tin and no random popping up and disappearing of assets. Actually the Draw distance is now too good for my WIP when I imported it into T:ANE and I had to back it off to get rid of the board edges! never seen before in TS09 10 or 12!

First impressions of CE1.2 as was RC2 beta were not that good, however instead of sqawking about on here I played with all the settings and what a dramatic improvement ten minutes of tweaking did!

"Seems to me this new Trainz will quickly obsolete all the older versions."

I agree. Absolutely.

If anyone has doubts, watch my TS12 and T:ANE youtube videos (search under "philskene") of the Port Loleta model railroad. Watch both full screen and in HD.

T:ANE is not just an incremental improvement, like we have seen before as Trainz has progressed from TRS2004 to TS12. In my view, T:ANE is a giant step forward.

There is a difference. That is on a TS2010 route with billboards.

That is the future.

Hi All
In relation to the over-bright nature of some screenshots, you may find that some 3rd party routes need the environment colours reset in T:ANE. We now use proper lighting in-game, compared to TS12 and earlier, and as such it will generally appear too bright with the old default settings. All built-in routes have now been reset (I'm pretty sure CE V1.2 has all routes reset to the new defaults).

You can reset the colours on 3rd party routes by editing the route, then going to the 'main menu' drop down on the top toolbar, then click on 'edit environment'. Now go to the 'environment colours' tab (the one with the large clock on it), and click on 'reset colours' (the right hand button directly above the clock). You can then further adjust/tweak the lighting and fog by selecting one of the green 'dots' around the clock, as per TS12/etc.

I enjoyed Trainz 2006 / 2010 (2009 and 2012). I created many sessions for my personal enjoyment, but a lot of the rolling stock/vehicles will not work in 2012 or in T-ANE. The tracks which include catenary wire for transit vehicles (Trolley Busses also) will not load work on snome of these programs. I have had to re-install 2010 on my W8.1 system several time and now even the vehicles which were operable in 2010 will not load (show as PINK colour in the Vehicle list of Surveyor). I read there is a MESH correction facility for vehicles, but it seems to be somewhat complicated to run. Will there be another program to update vehicles etc from Old TrainZ to T-ANE.

I'm looking forward to TANE (I did put $200 into it!) but until I can see the speedtrees on offer I don't know if I'll be building in it as I prefer 3D foliage for my routes. Also need to see how my (5 years old) PC copes with it.

TANE doesn't cough up it's lunch

When trains start up on the map there is no lurch in performance and catastrophic drop in framerates.

Trains come around a bend and are a surprise.
